The first-round leaders of Bellarmine University were up four strokes after 18 holes and now sit in second place with a -2 (574) through 36. The Knights are followed in the field by the University of Indianapolis at one-under-par (575) and the University of Southern Indiana (588), which jumped from a tie for seventh to fourth position. The Tritons were paced in the first two rounds by a trio of Julien de Poyen, James Henderson and Markus Lindberg, who posted three of the nine sub-par combined cards. de Poyen sits in fourth place, while Henderson and Lindberg are tied with each other for fifth individually after matching one-under 71s, leaving them just three shots off the lead.
The individual leader through two rounds is a newcomer to the tournament in Indianapolis freshman Christopher Heck. He shot a five-under-par 67 in round one before his one-over-par 73 after two for a grand total on the first day of 140 (-4). His 67 was the lowest card of the day, and he among six standouts that broke the 70 barrier.
Defending medalist Alex Thode led Lewis on the first day and sits in a tie for second overall with Bellarmine’s James Inman, both shooting a three-under-par 141.
Action will resume Monday with the third round, which tees off at 8 a.m. CT. Results of the third round will determine this year’s medalist and top-five All-GLVC honorees based on placement.
