INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced Wednesday the GLVC Sports Network (GLVCSN) and its Extra Credit initiative will air complete coverage of the 2016 GLVC Baseball Championship Tournament, which spans May 12-15 from Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.
John Edwards returns to the booth for the majority of the coverage, which is slated for four games in each of the first three days. Edwards is scheduled to call all four opening round games on Thursday, with game times tabbed for 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. ET.
Coverage begins 15 minutes prior to first pitch, so Thursday morning’s opener between No. 3E Bellarmine and No. 2W Quincy will begin at 8:45 a.m. ET.
Jordan Fisher, who graduated a few weeks ago from the University of Southern Indiana with a degree in radio and television, returns to Extra Credit for a pair of games this weekend with duties beginning on Friday. Fisher handled both play-by-play and color analyst duties during two games of the Extra Credit initiative at the 2016 GLVC Basketball Championship Tournament and then remained on the GLVCSN crew to cover additional tournament contests.
Over the past two years, the GLVC has provided students from its 16 member institutions the opportunity to travel to the GLVC Basketball Championship Tournament and take complete control of the coverage of a men’s and women’s quarterfinal game through its GLVCSN Extra Credit initiative. In 2015, eight students from five conference schools took part in the inaugural Extra Credit program, with interest growing to 12 students from seven campuses for the 2016 tournament this past March.
Two weeks ago, GLVCSN Extra Credit covered the 2016 GLVC Softball Championship Tournament from start to finish, while just this past week students from William Jewell College took part in assisting with production and camera operation during the 2016 GLVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The league is in the midst of its first-ever crowdfunding campaign entitled the GLVCSN Extra Credit Experience, which will focus on raising both funds and awareness for the GLVCSN’s student-run initiative. Funds generated through the GLVCSN Extra Credit Experience will be used to help defray costs associated with student travel, lodging, and wages at GLVC Championships, while also helping establish engagement programs on campus to empower more students to become involved with the GLVCSN.
