INDIANAPOLIS – No. 2 McKendree University dealt a convincing upset over No. 1 Quincy University to claim the 2017 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Soccer Championship on Sunday, Nov. 5 at Key Stadium in Indianapolis. The Bearcats earned their second consecutive GLVC Women’s Soccer Championship title with a 3-0 victory, becoming the fifth second-seed to do so.

The scoring started in the 23rd minute when junior midfielder Jane Skaggs blasted the game-winner from 30-yards out into the left upper-90 to give McKendree the 1-0 lead. The second goal didn’t come until the second half at 49:10 when freshman midfielder Alynna O’Leary cleaned up a rebound off senior midfielder Chelsea Whittaker’s blocked shot and placed the ball low into the right corner. Junior forward Sydnee Carroll joined in on the scoring action in the 82nd minute, beating a defender and then dribbling around Quincy keeper Megan Swanson before shooting the ball across the face of the goal into the left netting.

McKendree sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Brochu did her part in securing the shutout against the nationally-ranked Hawks, coming up big with 10 saves on the day for her 11th shutout this season. Quincy, the second-ranked team in the Midwest and fifth in the nation, did have the edge in shots (19-14) and shots on goal (10-9), along with a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The second-seeded Bearcats (15-2-3), which garnered the program's second Conference title in just their fourth appearance in the postseason event since joining the GLVC in 2012, earned the league's automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament. The top-seeded Hawks (16-3-1) will see their postseason fate determined on Monday evening's NCAA Division II Selection Show at 6 p.m. ET.
