EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The semifinal slate for the 2017 Deaconess Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Basketball Championship Tournament has been set for Saturday, following four quarterfinal games on Thursday at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.
In the opening game of the tournament, No. 1 Bellarmine University defeated No. 8 Drury University 79-62. Rusty Troutman led the Knights with 24 points on 7-for-12 shooting, adding six rebounds.
The second game of the first session saw No. 4 University of Wisconsin-Parkside earn the 97-82 result over No. 5 University of Indianapolis. Jake Verhagen tallied 26 points and grabbed five boards in the win for the Rangers.
With the wins, Bellarmine and UW-Parkside advance to face each other in the first semifinal matchup Saturday at 12 p.m. CT.
In the evening session, No. 6 Truman State University collected the first upset in Evansville, defeating No. 3 seed and 12th-ranked University of Southern Indiana, 69-68. Cory Myers paced the Bulldogs, scoring a career-high 33 points with three assists and as many steals.
No. 7 Lewis University followed suit and knocked off No. 2 Quincy University, 79-78, in the waning seconds of the nightcap. The Flyers were led by Delaney Blaylock with 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Anthony D'Avanzo also turned in a double-double of 18 and 10.
Truman and Lewis will battle for a spot in the title tilt with a meeting at 2:30 p.m. CT Saturday in the second semifinal contest.
Semifinal winners will advance to Sunday's championship game at 1 p.m. CT.
Single-session tickets can be purchased at the Ford Center box office and are $18 for adults and $8 for students 6- to 17-years-old. Children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge, but must be accompanied by an adult.
