The first week of 2018 features a full slate of GLVC women's basketball action, beginning on Thursday with the first seven games, while another seven are on tap Saturday. All 14 will stream live and free on the GLVCSN. Highlighting the week will be Saturday's match-up of No. 20 Southern Indiana (10-1, 2-0 GLVC) at No. 8 Drury (11-1, 3-0 GLVC). USI leads the East Division and Drury is atop the West standings, while Illinois Springfield leads the way in the Central and will face the second team in the East in Lewis on Thursday.

William Jewell was the only team to win its first GLVC contest of 2018 on the road with a 64-61 victory at Rockhurst. Four Cardinals scored in double figures, including Katie Finn with a game-high 18. Indianapolis also got double figures from four players, including a career-high 19 from Devin Ferguson, in its 75-69 win over Quincy. The Hawks' Anika Webster dropped 29 in the loss. Jessica Kelliher had another 30-point game to lead Lewis over Illinois Springfield, 82-59, while UW-Parkside won its contest over McKendree thanks to a game- and career-high 26 points from Ali Bettencourt. Truman's Rachel Edmundson led the game's scoring efforts, while Katie Jaseckas had a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double, in the 77-50 win over Missouri S&T. Southern Indiana got 22 points and 11 boards from Kaydie Grooms en route to a 70-65 win versus Missouri-St. Louis. Elsewhere, Bellarmine defeated Maryville 61-54 thanks to a huge fourth quarter where it scored 26 points.

No. 8 Drury won the featured top-25 contest against No. 20 Southern Indiana, 71-55, thanks to a 23-point third quarter, along with help from Hailey Diestelkamp's 13 points and 12 rebounds and three others who scored in double figures. Drury moves to 4-0 in league play as the only unbeaten team, while USI drops to 3-1 and falls to second in the East Division. Lewis, with its 73-58 road win at Truman State, moves atop the East standings at 4-1 thanks to Jessica Kelliher's game-high 26 points on 11-for-13 shooting (84.6%) and 11 boards. Indianapolis was the only other road team to score a victory on the day, tallying 20 points in the fourth quarter to defeat Rockhurst by a slim 66-64 margin. Quincy surged ahead with 23 points in the final frame to find its first GLVC win in a 67-58 result over Maryville, while McKendree also earned Conference win No. 1 against Central Division leader Illinois Springfield, 79-72, with a game-high 19 from Jordan Heberg to go with Jordan Morton's double-double of 14 points and 12 boards. Missouri S&T followed the Hawks and Bearcats lead, jumping out to a 24-7 lead after the first quarter against UW-Parkside en route to its first GLVC win, 79-63. Janie Arand shot 3-for-5 from long range and 8-for-11 overall to pick up a game-high 25 points. Elsewhere, William Jewell got 26 from Kayla Harrell to secure a 63-60 win over Bellarmine.
