McKendree, Truman State Garner Weekly GLVC Football Awards

INDIANAPOLIS – McKendree University freshman quarterback Turner Pullen, as well as Truman State University junior linebacker Reed McBroom and sophomore kicker Josh Scheiderer, have earned Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors in football, it was announced by the league office Monday. 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Turner Pullen, McKendree
Fr., QB, Shelbyville, Illinois
Major: Sport Management

Team Result: 42-35 win vs. Chowan
 
  • Completed 19 of 22 pass attempts for 344 yards in just his fourth career start
  • Had a hand in all six Bearcat touchdowns, throwing for five scores while adding a game-winning one-yard TD on a quarterback sneak with 4:45 to play
  • Produced more touchdown passes (5) than incompletions (3) in the contest
  • Found senior wide receiver Matt Cole on three of those touchdowns, which went for 68, 45 and 63 yards, respectively
  • Became first McKendree quarterback to throw touchdown passes in each of his first four career starts
  • Has thrown for 852 yards and 10 touchdowns to start the season
  • Earns his first career Offensive Player of the Week award

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Reed McBroom, Truman State
Jr., LB, Brookfield, Missouri
Major: Health Science

Team Result: 63-14 win at Quincy

 
  • Led Bulldogs with nine tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks
  • Guided a defense that allowed 313 yards and forced five turnovers
  • Earns his first career Defensive Player of the Week award
  • Last Truman State Defensive Player of the Week:  Sam Reeves (10/15/18)
 
 
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Josh Scheiderer, Truman State
So., K, Springfield, Missouri
Major: Exercise Science

Team Result: 63-14 win at Quincy

 
  • Tied a single-game program record with nine made point-after attempts
  • Feat had been accomplished by four other Bulldogs, the last being Derek Kook in 2012
  • Moved into the top 10 in career PAT with 51 points
  • Averaged 44.3 yards over nine kickoffs
  • Earns his first career Special Teams Player of the Week award
  • Becomes fourth straight Truman specialist to earn league award
