INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) is proud to announce the first edition of its Someone to Listen Series will air this evening on the GLVC Sports Network (GLVCSN) at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT. The 45-minute show, entitled
Get Involved, Get Out and Vote!, features representatives from four GLVC member institutions discussing the importance of getting involved in student government on campus and exercising your civic duty to vote.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Dr. Justin P. Coffey, Quincy University’s professor of history and the Hawks’ faculty athletic representative, moderates a panel of three student-athletes who are engaged in student government and politics on their campus, including Lewis University junior track and field star Jada Hoffman, McKendree University junior football standout Shelby Benn, and Truman State University sophomore golfer Natalie Fatka.
Coffey also serves as the chief political commentator for WGEM in Quincy. Hoffman, a radio/television broadcast and public relations/advertising double major, is the president of the Student Senate at Lewis, as well as the assistant news editor for
The Flyer and a member of the GLVC Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Benn, a business management and supply chain management major, is president of the McKendree Student Government Association and chair of the Bearcats’ newly created Student-Athlete Diversity and Inclusion Committee. A political science major, Fatka is actively involved with political affiliations on campus and has assisted with past gubernatorial campaigns as well.
The GLVC’s Someone to Listen Series is a new initiative of the league’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, aimed to expand upon its popular Someone to Listen mental health awareness campaign and engage Conference student-athletes, coaches, faculty and administrators in meaningful conversations on topics such as mental health and race relations.
Get Involved, Get Out and Vote! will stream across all GLVCSN platforms tonight, including
GLVCSN.com, the GLVCSN iOS and Android mobile apps, and GLVCSN OTT apps on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Android TV.
