USI, McKendree Earn GLVC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Awards

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Southern Indiana junior distance specialist Jennifer Comastri and McKendree University freshman jumper Laila Graham have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Athletes of the Week in women’s indoor track and field, it was announced by the league office Wednesday. 

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jennifer Comastri, Southern Indiana
Jr., Distance, Indianapolis, Indiana
Major: Kinesiology (Nutrition)

Team Result: No Team Scoring, UIndy Greyhound Invitational
 
  • Won the mile by 16 seconds with a time of 4 minutes, 56.88 seconds
  • Her converted time of 4:53.97 ranks third in the GLVC and seventh in NCAA Division II
  • Also ranked 10th in NCAA DII in the 3,000 meters and fourth in the 5,000 meters, making her the only DII female distance runner nationally ranked in top 10 in all three events
  • Earns her first career Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award
  • Last Southern Indiana Indoor Track Athlete of the Week:  Kaylee Lane (1/16/20)
     
 
WOMEN’S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Laila Graham, McKendree
Fr., Jumps, Fairview Heights, Illinois
Major: Pre-Law

Team Result: No Team Scoring, Principia Relays
  • Won the high jump with a leap of 1.74 meters, which bested her own school record
  • Currently ranks first in the GLVC and fourth in NCAA Division II
  • Earns her second Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honor (1/16/20)
  • Last McKendree Indoor Field Athlete of the Week:  Laila Graham (1/16/20)
