It was my final year in the sports information office here at UIndy. I went from a game day worker for two years, to an intern for a semester, to a graduate assistant for the last two years.  My life revolved around UIndy sports and our student-athletes.

The 2019-20 academic year was shaping up to be one of the best, if not the best, seasons for Greyhound athletics ever. My fall season was traveling with the men's and women's soccer teams as they made deep NCAA tournament runs, the women's basketball team was back in the GLVC Tournament this past winter, and baseball was off to their best start in years having already played 15 games this spring.

Oh, and men's basketball was hosting the NCAA regional for the first time since 1997.

I was at a loss for words for weeks. I did not know how to feel for the guys who won 24 games and looking to hoist a regional trophy on their home floor. I could not imagine how the spring athletes who went through all the offseason training and preseason training just to have their season start and end abruptly. I went back to my days as an athlete and all I could feel is the heartbreak and disappointment.

To all of you, I'm sorry, and I wish there was something I could do to help all of you.

To say these unprecedented times have posed challenges for all of us would be an understatement. I will soon be completing my masters degree and there is a lot of uncertainty right now. But, I am trying to find all the positives I can from this. After typically working 50-60 hour weeks, I have been given the gift of time for the first time in years. I am using this time to not only focus on doing my job, but also on myself and continuing to be healthy not only physically, but mentally.

This is not an ideal time and all of us would rather be playing or spending all day at the stadium or ballpark.  This is a time to be thankful for what we have and who we have. I cannot wait to come back to campus next year and see the athletes and people I worked with for years.

Stay positive. Stay healthy.
