ELKHART, Ind. - The University of Indianapolis men and Lindenwood University women lead the pack after day one at the 2021 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Swimming and Diving Championships, held for the first time at the Elkhart Health and Aquatics Center in the league's eighth edition of the event.

UIndy scored 440 points on the first day, holding a tight lead over Drury University (408) and Lindenwood (372). Missouri S&T (306.5), McKendree University (288), and Lewis University (214) follow behind, with the remaining programs listed as follows: William Jewell College (144.5), Missouri-St. Louis (122), Truman (111), and Maryville (54).

Lindenwood (540.5) snagged the lead on the women's side with a spectacular diving performance, earning two medals in the 1m event. However, defending champion Drury (524) and UIndy 507 lurk in the shadows. McKendree (272) and Truman (233) round out the top five, while the remaining are sitting in the following positions: Lewis (212), Missouri-St. Louis (194.5), William Jewell (128), and Maryville (108).

Three GLVC records were broken in the first men's session on Wednesday, including a pair of individuals from McKendree and a relay team from Drury. McKendree's Fabio Dalu kicked things off with an 8:57.35 mark in the 1000 free, just before teammate Gregg Lichinsky set a new league standard in the 50 free, touching the wall in a rapid 19.70 seconds. Drury closed the session with a 1:18.66 finish in the 200 free relay to break the previous Conference record. Dalu and Lichinsky's finish reached the NCAA A-standard, while Drury earned a provisional mark.

Lindenwood's Matheo Mateos-Mongelos claimed the 200 IM title with a 1:47.49 finish, while the UIndy won the 200 medley relay by less than a second to start the day's action, clocking in at 1:26.68.

The Drury women went a perfect five-for-five in the night session, with Bec Cross finishing in 1:59.89 to meet an NCAA B-cut.

The Panthers also nabbed both relay events on Wednesday, winning the 200 medley relay (1:40.85) and 200 free relay (1:32.54), the latter edging UIndy by just .15 seconds. Sophomore Kasia Rogowska earned the top spot in the 50 free, touching the wall in 23.06, while Allison Weber snuck by her own teammate in the 1000 free with a time of 9:57.33. Drury had individuals in the top two spots for the events.

Lindenwood's Elle Christie scored top points on the 1m dive, totaling 433 tallies to grab the gold. Teammate Katie Werkema finished third (400 points), while UIndy's Mikaela Starr sandwiched between the Lions to earn silver with 432.75 points.
