BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The top three seeds of the 2021 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Women’s Bowling Championship Tournament secured their spots for the final day at Bel-Air Bowl, as the field shrunk in half after Saturday’s four matches.

Top-seeded McKendree University earned its berth in the inaugural league championship match tomorrow, as second-seeded Maryville University and third-seeded University of Central Missouri will battle for the final spot at 8:30 a.m. CT.

The Saints bounced back Saturday morning, outscoring fifth-seeded Lewis University in the Traditional Format, 981-827, to advance in the competitors’ bracket. Brianna Schmidt (214) and Keagan Trexler (205) both tossed well in leg one of the mega match to give Maryville the advantage heading into Baker play. The Saints kept it rolling in the next five games, totaling 916 compared to Lewis’ 833.

Sixth-seeded Upper Iowa University refused to quit, knocking off fourth-seeded Drury University, in the morning session. The Panthers edged the Peacocks in traditional play, 872-853, as Madison Smith anchored her way to a 200, matching UIU’s Deanna Hopkins total. The Peacocks used a big second Baker game, outscoring the Panthers, 214-155, to force a best-of-seven Baker series. Drury and UIU traded wins through the first four games before the Panthers grabbed a 3-2 lead; however, the Peacocks rolled a 210 and 212, respectively, in the final two segments to sneak into the fourth round.

In the winners’ bracket, the Bearcats pummeled the Jennies to advance to tomorrow’s championship. Four players finished with 201 or better in the traditional format, including Rebecca Hagerman’s 232 to lead the match. Hope Gramly finished close behind with 225, while Miranda Pattison tallied 224. In Baker play, McKendree finished with 1,166 in five games, with a 256 in leg four. Central Missouri’s Jackie Garcia Viroa rolled a 215 during the traditional contest.

Maryville rode its momentum into the afternoon match against Upper Iowa, registering a combined 1,036 as a team in traditional against the Peacocks to lead heading into Baker format. Schmidt rolled a 266, followed by Bailey Delrose’s 214 to pace the Saints. Maryville jumped out to a 67-pin lead after game one in Baker, before finishing with a 932-797 win.

Maryville and Central Missouri will square off on Sunday at 8:30 a.m., in a rematch from Friday afternoon. The winner will face McKendree at 1:30 p.m., and must defeat the Bearcats twice to be crowned as the inaugural league champion.
