Tournament Bracket
INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference released Friday night the bracket for the 2020-21 GLVC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. McKendree University earned the top seed in the eight-team tournament and will serve as one of four hosts in the postseason quarterfinal contests, which take place next Monday, April 19. No. 2 University of Indianapolis, No. 3 University of Southern Indiana, and No. 4 Lindenwood University will also host first-round action.
Seedings for this year’s postseason were set to be based on a point system, where a win earned three points and a tie earned one. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some games were canceled and unable to be rescheduled, so an averaging system was utilized to determine seeds for this spring.
Top-seed and GLVC Regular Season Champion McKendree finished with an 11-2-1 record, earning 34 total points and 2.43 points per game. The eighth-ranked Bearcats, set to make their sixth consecutive postseason trip and seventh overall, will play host to No. 8 Maryville University (6-5-3, 21 points, 1.50 points/game) in Lebanon, Ill., on Monday for a quarterfinal matchup at 5 p.m. Central Time. The Saints will be competing in their fourth league event overall in as many years. They will look to rectify a 2-1 loss at McKendree earlier in the season on April 1.
Twenty-fourth ranked Indianapolis (10-3-1, 31, 2.21) returns as the second seed for the second-straight GLVC event in its 17th appearance overall and will face No. 7 Truman State University (7-6, 21, 1.62) on Monday in Indianapolis, Ind., at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The Greyhounds won a tiebreaker over Southern Indiana to claim the 2-seed based on a head-to-head tiebreaker thanks to their 2-1 win on Feb. 28. Truman extended its streak of earning a bid to the event every year since joining the league in 2013. On March 19, UIndy took a 3-1 win over the Bulldogs in Kirksville, Mo.
Defending GLVC Champion Southern Indiana (10-3-1, 31, 2.21) returns to the Conference dance for the fifth-straight year and 15th overall after capturing the 2019 title as the 7-seed in penalty kicks over top-seeded McKendree. USI will welcome 6-seed Rockhurst (7-4-3, 24, 1.71) in Evansville, Ind., at 6:30 p.m. CT on Monday, April 19. The two teams played a mid-season contest on March 21 that saw the Hawks earn a 2-1 road win. Rockhurst will play in its 15th postseason tournament but missed out on the fifth seed after losing a head-to-head tiebreaker to Quincy with a 2-0 home loss on April 3.
Fourth-seeded Lindenwood went 9-2-3 with 30 points and 2.14 points per game for the last spot as host in the quarterfinal round, welcoming fifth-seeded Quincy (7-4-3, 24, 1.71) to St. Charles, Mo., on Monday at 7 p.m. CT. After competing in the league for the first time during the 2019-20 season, the Lions will make their first-ever appearance in the GLVC Championship, while the Hawks return this season after missing out in 2019 for its 21st overall bid and 13th in the last 15 years. This game will be a rematch from the second week of the season on Feb. 28 where Lindenwood beat Quincy, 1-0, at home.
Each of the four quarterfinal winners will advance to the GLVC Championship Tournament semifinals, which will be hosted for the first time at Hunter Stadium on campus at Lindenwood. The two semifinal contests will be played at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. CT Friday, April 23, while the finals will take place Sunday, April 25 at 3 p.m.
