EUREKA, Mo. – Missouri S&T freshman Carl Miltun showed out in his first appearance at the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Men's Golf Championship with a consistent effort to claim the one-stroke victory at Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Missouri.
Miltun fired a 54-hole total of 1-under-par 215, remaining consistent with rounds of 71-71-73. He sat in a tie for fourth after the first round on Sunday and improved to a tie for third after 36 holes.
Following the 54 holes, the top-five finishers – which included ties – were named to the first half of the All-Conference squad. Joining the medalist from Gilbert, Ariz., were Maryville senior Alex Locke (72-69-75–216) in second, University of Missouri-St. Louis senior Chris Ferris (69-72-76–217) and University of Indianapolis senior Oliver Mast (71-73-73–217) in a tie for third, as well as UMSL sophomore Juan Antonio Padilla (73-71-74–218) and UIndy junior Keegan Bronnenberg (69-73-76–218).
The remaining five positions on the All-Conference team, along with Player, Freshman, and Coach of the Year awards, as well as the individual and team winner of the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award, will be announced following a coaches' vote prior to NCAA Regional competition.
On the team side, UIndy (289-292-299–880) beat Maryville (293-289-300–882) by two strokes to earn the top seed in Tuesday's medal/match play competition. The Saints will meet No. 3 seed UMSL (289-304-301–894), while the Greyhounds will battle No. 4 seed Missouri S&T (296-296-303–895), which will be competing in its first-ever semifinals.
McKendree University (306-306-305–917) finished 22 shots back of S&T in fifth place, while Lindenwood University placed sixth with rounds of 314-304-304–922 in its first-ever league postseason event for the sport. Drury University (310-310-306–926) was four back of Lindenwood in seventh, and the University of Illinois Springfield (302-319-307–928) was just two behind Drury in eighth. The University of Southern Indiana (306-315-315–936) and Rockhurst University (321-315-315–951) respectively rounded out the top-10 teams in ninth and 10th. Placing 11th was Lewis University (313-321-324–958), in 12th was William Jewell College (328-323-339–990), and completing the 13-team field was Quincy University (330-329-340–999) in 13th.
Tuesday's semifinal rounds of medal/match play will begin at 8 a.m. Central Time, with the UIndy/Maryville match going off No. 1 tee and the UMSL/S&T match off No. 10.
