INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced Tuesday evening the field for the inaugural GLVC Women’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament, which will be hosted by McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill., from April 30-May 2.
The top four teams based on Conference winning percentage received a berth in the single-elimination tournament. The tournament location was determined prior to the academic year.
Ranked atop the IWLCA national poll, Lindenwood University (12-0, 7-0 GLVC) secured the No. 1 seed for the event after finishing the regular season unblemished. University of Indianapolis (12-1, 6-1 GLVC) earned the No. 2 seed, while McKendree (10-3, 5-2 GLVC) and Rockhurst University (6-6, 4-3 GLVC) will be seeded No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
Overall, Lindenwood holds seven conference championships under head coach Jack Cribbin since joining NCAA Division II, while UIndy won each of the last two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament titles before the GLVC began sponsoring the sport in 2020. Last season’s GLVC Championship Tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lindenwood was perfect in league play during the first full season of league women’s lacrosse in 2021. Erin McGuire led the team with 68 points this spring, including 39 in GLVC action, which ranks third. The Lions earn their first No. 1 seed in a Conference tournament since 2018, when the program was a part of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). For Rockhurst, Marianna Anderson led the attack this season with 35 points, while five Hawks tallied at least 20 draw controls.
The Lions and Hawks square off on Friday at 4 p.m. CT in Lebanon. During the regular season, Lindenwood defeated Rockhurst, 18-9, at home.
The Greyhounds top DII in both scoring offense and scoring defense, while netminder Cassidy King leads the country with a 4.39 goals-against average (GAA). Abigail Lagos paces the fiery Greyhound offense, recording 71 points on 54 goals and 17 assists this season. For McKendree, Kat Albrecht has registered 80 points this spring, with Rylee Skachenko adding 48.
The Greyhounds and Bearcats compete at 6:30 p.m. CT on Friday evening. UIndy toppled McKendree, 24-5, last Saturday in the teams’ lone contest this season.
Gates will open at 3 p.m. on Friday and noon on Sunday. Individuals must be on "will call" list (200 per team) in order to purchase tickets.
