KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – David Gannon has been selected as the next head coach for the Truman State University Volleyball program. Gannon comes to Truman after serving as an assistant coach at Division I University of Idaho and Weber State University.

Gannon becomes the 10th head coach as he replaces Ben Briney, who served in that roll the past 12 seasons and complied a record of 243-141. Briney resigned earlier this summer to take a job as Athletic Director and Head Volleyball Coach at Westminster Christian Academy in his hometown of St. Louis.

"We are excited to have Coach Gannon and his family coming to Truman State and the Kirksville community," said Director of Athletics Jerry Wollmering. "We had an outstanding pool of candidates considering the lateness of our search this summer and we couldn't be happier we landed with Coach Gannon to lead our volleyball program."

"I would like to thank Jerry Wollmering and his staff," said Coach Gannon. "I am truly humbled by this wonderful opportunity to lead the next era of Truman State Volleyball. "I'm excited to get to work and get in the gym with these outstanding young women. From my small interactions with them, I saw their hunger and resolve to be great. I have no doubt they will work hard to accomplish what they want most."

Gannon started his collegiate coaching career while attending Arizona State University. Gannon was the assistant coach at Mesa (Ariz.) Community College and following graduation with a degree in Physical Education, moved on to the University of Idaho as Director of Volleyball Operations in 2014.

In March of 2015, Gannon was named Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator for Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. The Wildcats posted records of 18-10 and 26-9 in his final two seasons at Weber State and the program had nine players selected to the Big Sky All-Conference team during his tenure.

In March of 2019, Gannon shifted within the conference back to Idaho as the top Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. The Vandals had five all-conference players, three in the 2019 season and two in the abbreviated 2021 spring season.

Gannon has also been a club coach that competed in the Junior Olympic qualifiers and worked as a coach for USA Volleyball High Performance.

David and his wife Lynnette are the parents of two daughters, Gwen and Mae.
