INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis was voted in the preseason coaches’ poll as the choice to win the 2023 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) men’s basketball championship, the league office announced on Thursday.
The preseason poll is determined by the league’s head coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own team.
No. 1 Indianapolis
- Received seven first-place votes and 136 total points.
- Finished runner-up at GLVC Championship Tournament this past year as sixth seed.
- Coached by Paul Corsaro, who enters his third season after a 19-11 overall and 10-8 GLVC record in 2021-22.
- Return Second Team All-GLVC selection Jesse Bingham.
No. 2 Southwest Baptist
- Received five first-place votes and 131 total points.
- Earned GLVC West Division title and top seed in Championship Tournament this past year.
- Coached by reigning co-GLVC Coach of the Year Clark Sheehy, who enters his ninth season after a 21-6 overall and 15-4 GLVC record in 2021-22.
- Return GLVC Player of the Year, Quinn Nelson, and fellow First Team All-GLVC selection Mitch Ganote, who was also a member of the All-Defensive team.
No. 3 Lewis
- Received one first-place vote and 107 total points.
- Earned GLVC East Division title and advanced to semifinals of Championship Tournament this past season as 2-seed.
- Coached by reigning co-GLVC Coach of the Year, Scott Trost, who enters his 17th year after a 16-11 overall and 12-5 GLVC record in 2021-22.
- Return GLVC All-Freshman selection Anthony Sayles.
No. 4 Truman State
- Received 98 total points.
- Earned third seed in GLVC Championship Tournament and berth in NCAA Midwest Regional.
- Coached by Jeff Horner, who enters his fifth season after a 20-10 overall and 13-6 GLVC record in 2021-22.
- Return Second Team All-GLVC selection Elijah Hazekamp.
Rounding out the poll respectively in fifth through 13th was William Jewell College (94 points), McKendree University (91), University of Missouri-St. Louis (87) – reigning GLVC Central Division and Tournament Champions – Drury University (68), University of Illinois Springfield (49), Missouri S&T (48), Maryville University (46), Quincy University (45), Rockhurst University (14).
