Rockhurst, McKendree Named GLVC Women’s Soccer Major Award Winners

INDIANAPOLIS – McKendree University junior forward Anna Stiffler, as well as Rockhurst University junior defender Greta Seal, freshman forward Anna Lantz, and head coach Greg Herdlick have earned major postseason honors for the 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Women’s Soccer season, the league office announced on Thursday.

Stiffler was named Offensive Player of the Year, Seal earned Defensive Player of the Year, Lantz garnered Freshman of the Year, and Herdlick was dubbed Coach of the Year by his peers. In total, 33 student-athletes claimed All-Conference honors, while 13 were chosen as GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship honorees for the sport and Truman State University was selected as the team sportsmanship award winner.

The All-Conference awards are nominated and voted on by league coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own players.

Offensive Player of the Year: Anna Stiffler, Junior, Forward, McKendree
  • Becomes McKendree’s second Offensive Player of the Year, as Sydnee Carroll was the first in 2016. Also the sixth overall major award winner for the Bearcats, which includes Stiffler’s Freshman of the Year distinction in the 2021 spring season.

  • Added five points on one goal and three assists.
  • Named GLVC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 17.
  • Helped Hawks earn No. 1 seed in GLVC Championship Tournament.
  • Also named to All-GLVC First Team for her third All-Conference selection and second on the First Team.

  • One of just two freshmen on the All-GLVC First Team.

Coach of the Year: Greg Herdlick, Rockhurst
  • Voted by his peers as Rockhurst’s first Coach of the Year in the sport, marking the fourth-straight season a mentor has earned the postseason award for the first time.
  • Led Rockhurst to 11-3-3 overall record and 10-1-1 GLVC record, as well as the top seed in GLVC Championship Tournament.
  • In addition to guiding Seal and Lantz to major honors, mentored Olivia Schwarzen to the All-GLVC First Team, as well as Gabby Hennessy and Lizzo Rosenthal to the Second Team.

In addition to McKendree’s Stiffler and Rockhurst’s Seal, Lantz, and Schwarzen, seven others earned All-GLVC First Team honors. The forwards included Lewis University’s Cameron Sengstock and Maryville University’s Ashlyne Hunt; the midfielders were Maryville’s Lexi Gentry – the other unanimous pick – and McKendree’s Allison Frederking; the defenders included Lewis’ Abby Gustafson and McKendree’s Morgan Bova; and the first-team goalkeeper was Maryville’s Katie Nash.

The 13 GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honorees are listed below, which are student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees are now eligible to become one of their school’s two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
