Lindenwood Repeats as GLVC Women’s Lacrosse Preseason Choice

INDIANAPOLIS – Lindenwood University has been selected as the 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Women’s Lacrosse preseason favorite, it was announced by the Conference office Friday.

The GLVC Women's Lacrosse Preseason Poll was voted on by the eight Conference head coaches. Per league policy, coaches are not permitted to vote for their own school.

The Lions earned the top spot in the poll by gleaning 47 points and five first-place votes. The University of Indianapolis picked up the remaining three first-place votes and 45 total points for a close second in the poll. McKendree University (36 points) and Rockhurst University (29) were third and fourth, respectively, while Missouri Western State University (28) was just one point back from Rockhurst in fifth. Lewis University placed sixth with 18 points, just ahead of Maryville University’s seventh position and 14 points. No. 7 Quincy University (9) rounded out the seven-team contingent.

Lindenwood will enter the 2022 campaign also ranked first in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Preseason Poll after winning the NCAA Division II title in 2021. The Lions went 17-1 overall and 7-0 in GLVC play last season, falling to Indianapolis in the league’s postseason title tilt before going on to win the National Championship just a few weeks later. Reigning GLVC Coach of the Year Jack Cribbin returns to the helm, welcoming back All-GLVC performers in first-team picks Lexy Biller and Alyssa Kneedler; second-team honorees Paige Sutton and Emma Arnold; and honorable mention players Lindsey Smith and Kate MacDonnell.

Defending GLVC Champion UIndy (14-2, 6-1 GLVC in 2021) returns a stacked lineup from a season ago in reigning GLVC Attacker of the Year Abigail Lagos, GLVC Midfielder of the Year Peyton Romig, GLVC Goalkeeper of the Year Cassidy King, and GLVC Freshman of the Year Sarah Klein, along with several other All-GLVC performers. The Greyhounds enter the 2022 season as the second-ranked team in the IWLCA preseason poll and will be guided by fourth-year head coach James Delaney.

McKendree went 10-4 overall last year and 5-2 in GLVC action, earning the No. 3 seed in the GLVC Championship. Eighth-year head coach Melissa Gyllenborg returns four All-GLVC honorees to her lineup in 2022 with Kat Albrecht, Sydney Tiemann, Brittany Koch, and Clara Andrews leading the way.

The 2022 season will feature a six-game single round-robin schedule, beginning April 2, while the non-conference slate commences Wednesday, Feb. 9. The 2022 GLVC Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament will be hosted on campus by the No. 1 seed from April 29-May 1.
