UIndy, Quincy Take Home GLVC Women’s Lacrosse Major Awards

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis collected five Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) women’s lacrosse major awards and Quincy University earned one, the league office announced Friday.

UIndy’s Cassidy King (Goalkeeper), Bella Schorr (Freshman), Abigail Lagos (Attacker), Kara Antonucci (Defender), and Peyton Romig (Midfielder) were all named their respective position’s major award recipients, while Quincy's Kathelene Kim was tabbed Coach of the Year by her peers.

In all, 45 student-athletes earned All-GLVC honors, as voted by the league’s eight head coaches. Thirteen players covered 14 spots on the First Team, while 12 others were named to the Second Team, and 20 were listed as Honorable Mention. Eight individuals were also named the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honorees, while Quincy University was the sport’s James R. Spalding Sportsmanship team recipient.

Lagos paced the league with 81 goals this year, an average of nearly five per game, while also assisting on 22 goals for a total of 103 points. A five-time GLVC Offensive Player of the Week winner this season, Lagos scored five or more goals in 11 of the Greyhounds’ 17 games on their way to being the No. 1 seed in this week’s GLVC Championship Tournament, including a season-best eight goals against Notre Dame (OH) earlier this month. Lagos has now taken home back-to-back Offensive Player of the Year awards and was also named All-Conference for the third time with an All-GLVC First Team selection.

Make it two-straight Midfielder of the Year awards and All-GLVC First Team Selections for UIndy’s Peyton Romig. The Carthage, N.Y., native ranks second in the country in draw controls this season with 203, nearly 100 more than the second-highest among GLVC players. The graduate student accumulated double-digit draw controls in all but four games this past year for the Hounds, including a season-high 18 against Tampa back in late March.

Causing terror defensively all year was senior Kara Antonucci, as the Lake Forest, Ill., native did a little bit of everything for Indianapolis with 46 draw controls and 12 caused turnovers, while picking up 11 ground balls in 2022. Antonucci was also named All-GLVC First Team for the second consecutive season, adding in two goals and an assist on the offensive end of the field on top of being the league’s best defender.

King was named the Goalkeeper of the Year again, successfully defending her title from a season ago. Ranking second in the league in goals against average (4.44) and save percentage (.563), King only allowed 38 goals while in the net this year. She never allowed more than five goals in a single game during her senior campaign and racked up a season-best eight saves against Tampa back in March.

The final major award won by the Greyhounds was Freshman of the Year, as they have now taken home the award both years since the Conference started sponsoring women’s lacrosse. Canandaigua, N.Y., native Bella Schorr was voted the winner this year after her efforts for the Greyhounds in her first season on campus. The defender started all 17 games this season, snagging 25 ground balls and winning 17 draw controls. Offensively, Schorr scored her first-career goal against Notre Dame (OH), while also contributing an assist during the first weekend of the season against Frostburg State. On top of the highest league newcomer honor, Schorr was also named All-GLVC First Team.

Quincy’s Kathelene Kim was voted Coach of the Year by her peers after guiding the Hawks to a program-best six wins in 2022. The Hawks improved their win total this season while picking up their first Conference win in program history on April 14th against Lewis. She also mentored midfielder Danielle Robinson to Honorable Mention distinction.

UIndy led all league programs with seven first-team choices, while two others were named All-GLVC Second Team, and three earned Honorable Mention. Lindenwood garnered three first-team nods, with attackers Logann Eldredge and Bridget Considine joined by defender Alyssa Kneedler and midfielder Emma Arnold. McKendree attackers Kat Albrecht and Sydney Tiemann, and Rockhurst midfielder Mackenzie Blair were also tabbed All-GLVC First Team members.

Rockhurst earned the sport’s GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team Award, while eight student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior were also recognized. These individuals must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from full-time GLVC member institutions are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
