Maryville Tabbed to Win GLVC Women’s Bowling Crown



INDIANAPOLIS – Maryville University was voted in the preseason coaches’ poll as the choice to win the 2024 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) women’s bowling championship, the league office announced on Wednesday.

The preseason poll is determined by the league’s head coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own team.
 
No. 1 Maryville
  • Received five first-place votes and 25 total points.
  • Ranked ninth in National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-Divisions and first in D-II/D-III Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
  • Coached by Lauren Pate in her second campaign, who was named Coach of the Year by both the GLVC and NTCA last season.
  • Made first-ever NCAA Tournament in 2023.
  • Return four All-GLVC selections – junior Anna Maxwell (1st Team) and seniors Laura Bartelt (2nd), Natalie Heltne (2nd), and Brianna Schmidt (HM).

 No. 2 Newman
  • Received one first-place vote and 21 total points.
  • Ranked 13th in NTCA All-Divisions and second in D-II/D-III Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
  • Finished as runners-up in first GLVC Championship Tournament last season.
  • Coached by Billy Murphy, who enters his 21st year.
  • Return unanimous GLVC Freshman of the Year, Kassidy Miller, and fellow All-GLVC Honorable Mention selection Kensley Morris.

No. 3 Central Missouri
  • Received 14 total points.
  • Ranked 19th in NTCA All-Divisions and sixth in D-II/D-III Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
  • Coached by Ron Holmes, who enters his 32nd campaign.
  • Return All-GLVC Second Team selections Norma Alicia Romero Alarid and Andrea Carolina Perez Perez.

No. 4 McKendree
  • Received 13 total points.
  • Ranked 14th in NTCA All-Divisions and third in D-II/D-III Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
  • Won the first three GLVC Championships from 2021-2023 and 2022 NCAA National Championship.
  • Advanced to 2023 NCAA Final Four.
  • Coached by Shawn Bibee in his first season, replacing 2020 GLVC Coach of the Year, Shannon O’Keefe.

Rounding out the poll respectively in fifth and sixth was Lewis University (12 points) and Quincy University (5).
