INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) released Saturday night the bracket for the 2023 GLVC Volleyball Championship Tournament. Regular Season Champion University of Missouri-St. Louis earned the No. 1 overall seed, while defending champion Lewis University gleaned the second seed, Quincy University was tabbed as the 3-seed, and Rockhurst University claimed the 4-seed. The tournament is being held for the first time in Williamsville, Ill., at the Williamsville High School Fieldhouse from Friday, Nov. 17 through Sunday, Nov. 19 after spending the last nine consecutive years at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria.
The eight-team tournament is seeded 1-8 based on Conference winning percentage with ties broken pursuant to GLVC Handbook Section 1 and 14. Missouri S&T and Maryville University earned seeds 5-6, while University of Indianapolis and Upper Iowa University filled spots No. 6 and 7, respectively.
Quarterfinal 1: #1 Missouri-St. Louis vs. #8 Upper Iowa | 11:30 AM CT
- Missouri-St. Louis went 28-0 overall and 13-0 in GLVC action during the regular season, earning the GLVC Regular Season title.
- Upper Iowa went 11-16 overall and 6-7 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- The second-ranked Hawks beat the Peacocks, 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-20), in Fayette on Oct. 27.
- UMSL is making its 23rd appearance in the GLVC postseason.
- UIU is making its first GLVC postseason appearance in its first year as a GLVC member.
Quarterfinal 2: #4 Rockhurst vs. #5 Missouri S&T | 2:30 PM CT
- Rockhurst went 21-6 overall and 9-4 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- Missouri S&T went 17-9 overall and 8-5 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- The 23rd-ranked Hawks beat the Miners, 3-2 (25-13, 17-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-12), in Rolla on Oct. 6.
- RU is making its 19th appearance in the GLVC postseason and has won three previous titles.
- S&T is making its 10th appearance in the GLVC postseason.
Quarterfinal 3: #2 Lewis vs. #7 Indianapolis | 5:30 PM CT
- Lewis went 23-6 overall and 11-2 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- Indianapolis went 18-10 overall and 7-6 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- UIndy lost head-to-head tiebreaker to Maryville (2-3 loss on Oct. 28) for sixth seed.
- The 13th-ranked Flyers beat the Greyhounds, 3-1 (25-12, 19-25, 25-22, 25-15), in Romeoville on Oct. 21
- Lewis is making its league-best 33rd appearance in the GLVC postseason and will look to three-peat as Champions next weekend.
- UIndy is making its 24th appearance in the GLVC postseason and has won four previous titles.
Quarterfinal 4: #3 Quincy vs. #6 Maryville | 8:30 PM CT
- Quincy went 24-4 overall and 10-3 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- Maryville went 16-11 overall and 7-6 in GLVC action during the regular season.
- Maryville won head-to-head tiebreaker over UIndy (3-2 win on Oct. 28) to claim sixth seed.
- The 22nd-ranked Hawks beat the Saints, 3-1 (15-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-16), in St. Louis on Sept. 23.
- Quincy is making its 13th appearance in the GLVC postseason.
- Maryville is making its second appearance in the GLVC postseason.
- This will be rematch of quarterfinal game last season when QU was 1-seed and MU was 8-seed in which Hawks won, 3-1.
Each of the four quarterfinal winners from Friday, Nov. 17 will advance to the semifinals set for 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM Saturday, Nov. 18. The winners of the semifinal matches will face each other on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 12 PM for a shot at being crowned 2023 GLVC Volleyball Champions.
