Maryville Unanimously Sits atop GLVC Women’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll



INDIANAPOLIS – Maryville University was voted in the preseason coaches’ poll as the unanimous choice to win the 2024 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) women’s lacrosse championship, the league office announced on Wednesday.

The preseason poll is selected by the league’s head coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own team.
 
No. 1 Maryville
  • Received all seven possible first-place votes and 49 total points.
  • Ranked No. 13 in Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II Preseason Poll.
  • Earned No. 2 seed in 2023 GLVC Championship, advancing to the title game.
  • Made first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance as No. 3 seed.
  • Coached by Melissa Gyllenborg, who enters her second season after a program-best 17-3 overall and 5-1 GLVC record in her inaugural campaign.
    • Named GLVC Coach of the Year and IWLCA Midwest Regional Coaching Staff of the Year last season.
  • Return seven All-GLVC honorees from last year.
    • GLVC Attacker of the Year and IWLCA First Team All-American Sydney Tiemann.
      • Broke D-II scoring record with 115 goals and led D-II in total points (131).
    • GLVC Defender of the Year and IWLCA Third Team All-American Ronnie Skorcz.
    • All-GLVC Second Team honorees Helen Bae and Jessie Hynes.
    • All-GLVC Honorable Mention selections Hollie Bekeske, Reagan Rukstad, and Olivia Sardina.

No. 2 Indianapolis
  • Received one first-place vote and 43 total points.
  • Ranked No. 12 in IWLCA D-II Preseason Poll.
  • Has claimed all three GLVC Regular Season and Championship titles since league’s inaugural season in 2021.
  • Advanced to NCAA Midwest Regional finals last season as No. 2 seed.
  • Coached by Peyton Romig, who takes over a program that went 18-3 overall and 6-0 in GLVC action in 2023.
    • Played on UIndy’s 2022 NCAA National Champion team.
  • Return IWLCA Third Team All-American and First Team All-GLVC honoree Joey Fowler, along with Honorable Mention selections Megan Dunn and Madison Phillips.

No. 3 Rockhurst
  • Received 35 total points.
  • Earned No. 3 seed in GLVC Championship last season.
  • Coached by Molly McCourt, who enters her ninth season after a 10-6 overall and 4-2 GLVC record in 2023.
  • Return First Team All-GLVC honoree Mackenzie Blair, as well as Honorable Mention selection Dani Mabry.
 
 No. 4 Missouri Western
  • Received 33 total points.
  • Earned fourth seed and made first-ever appearance in GLVC Championship last season.
  • Coached by Jessica Berg, who enters her third season after a program-best 9-8 overall and 3-3 GLVC record in 2023.
  • Return Second Team All-GLVC honorees KC Ossello, Mackenzie Porter, Jazmine Servance, and Grace Williams, along with Honorable Mention selections Mikaela Ness, Samantha Pruitt, and Bella Ramirez.

Rounding out the poll respectively in fifth through eighth was McKendree University (21 points), Quincy University (20), Lewis University (16), and William Jewell College (7).
