INDIANAPOLIS – Missouri-St. Louis trio of senior setter Caitlin Bishop, junior libero Skylar Weaver, and head coach Ryan Young, as well as Indianapolis freshman setter Carly Fonda have earned major postseason honors for the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Volleyball season, the league office announced on Thursday.
Bishop was named Player of the Year, Weaver earned Libero of the Year, Fonda garnered Freshman of the Year, and Young was dubbed Coach of the Year by his peers. In total, 28 student-athletes claimed All-Conference honors, while 14 were chosen as GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship honorees for the sport and Truman State University was selected as the team sportsmanship award winner.
The All-Conference awards are nominated and voted on by league coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own players.
Player of the Year: Caitlin Bishop, Senior, Setter, Missouri-St. Louis
- Wins the second career Player of the Year award, fifth overall in Missouri-St. Louis history, joining Charlotte Richards as the only Tritons to earn the award.
- 12th overall major honor in Missouri-St. Louis history.
- Currently first in Division II in assists per set (12.39) and third in total assists (1177) in 95 sets.
- Assists the top offense in the GLVC with Missouri-St. Louis first in points per set (18.28), Kills per set (14.92), and assists per set (14.09) as well as tied for first in hitting percentage (.259)
- Led league in GLVC-only matches with 637 assists (13.27 per set) in 48 sets played.
- Registered 12 doubles-doubles this season, including six in Conference play.
- Achieved 50 or more assists in eight matches, including six in Conference play.
- Had 60 or more assists four times with all being in GLVC play.
- Won GLVC Setter of the Week seven times (Sept. 8, Sept. 15, Oct. 6, Oct. 13, Oct. 20, Oct. 27, and Nov. 3).
- Holds 22 GLVC Setter of the Week Awards in her career
- Helped 25th-ranked Tritons secure the GLVC Regular Season title with a perfect 13-0 record and top seed in GLVC Championship Tournament.
- Named to the All-GLVC First Team for the fourth time in her career and fourth All-Conference selection.
Libero of the Year: Skylar Weaver, Junior, Missouri-St. Louis
- Wins Missouri-St. Louis’ second Libero of the Year, joining Megan Woll, and becomes Missouri-St. Louis’ 13th overall major award winner.
- Ranks 13th in Division II in digs per set (5.44)
- Led the GLVC in digs per set (5.44) and second in total digs (528) in 97 sets played.
- Fourth in the Conference in total digs (254) and sixth in digs per set (5.29) through 48 Conference sets.
- Placed sixth in service aces with 19 (0.40/set) in Conference play.
- Added 109 total assists (1.12/set) with 50 (1.04/set) coming in GLVC matches.
- Named GLVC Defensive Player of the Week thrice (Sept. 8, Sept. 15, and Oct. 27)
- Helped 25th-ranked Tritons secure the GLVC Regular Season title with a perfect 13-0 record and top seed in GLVC Championship Tournament.
- Named to All-GLVC First Team for the first time in her career, second All-Conference selection making Second Team last year.
Freshman of the Year: Carly Fonda, Setter, Indianapolis
- Becomes Indianapolis’ fifth Freshman of the Year.
- Earns sixth overall major award for the Greyhounds.
- Assisted the tied for first best hitting percentage offense in the league (.259)
- Placed third in the league with 989 total assists and 9.16 assists per set over 108 sets.
- Finished third in the league in 50 GLVC-only sets with 496 total assists, 9.92 per set.
Coach of the Year: Ryan Young, Missouri-St. Louis
- Voted by his peers as Coach of the Year, marking his fourth accolade as the top league coach.
- Fourteenth major award winner for the Tritons.
- Led Missouri-St. Louis to a 23-4 overall record and perfect 13-0 GLVC record.
- Second time going unbeaten in conference play, eighth time a GLVC team has pulled off the feat.
- Claimed the GLVC Regular Season title for the third time in school history and earned the top seed in the GLVC Championship Tournament.
- Young guided Caitlin Bishop, the GLVC Player of the Year and Skylar Weaver, the GLVC Libero of the Year as well as three other All-GLVC First Team members this season, senior attacker Iyanna Jackson, sophomore attacker Maggie Johnson, and sophomore attacker Alayna Santel.
Joining the Missouri-St. Louis quintet on the First Team were the Indianapolis duo of GLVC Freshman of the Year, setter Carly Fonda, and senior attacker Paige Parlanti, the Maryville duo of senior attacker Ella Brinkman, and senior libero Olivia Klump, the Quincy duo of junior attacker Susanna Beretti, and sophomore setter Elena Kasavica, the Rockhurst duo of senior attacker Sarah Pyle, and sophomore attacker Delaney Hope, and Drury senior attacker Ella Rademaker.
William Jewell earned the sport’s GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team Award, while 14 student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior were also recognized. These individuals must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from full-time GLVC member institutions are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
