Maryville Repeats as GLVC Women’s Bowling Champions

 

QUINCY, Ill. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Women’s Bowling Championship Tournament came to an end with top-seeded Maryville University capturing its second consecutive league title. The Saints took down the third-seeded Oklahoma Christian University Sunday afternoon at Casino Lanes.
 
The three-day event featured double-elimination action, with each match beginning with a Traditional single-game total, followed by a five-game Baker format total, and then a best-of-seven Baker format, if necessary. At the conclusion of the tournament, six student-athletes were named to the All-Tournament Team.

MATCH 13 (8:30 AM CT)

No. 3 OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN (1095, 1067) def. No. 5 NEWMAN (1032, 968), 2-0
  • Oklahoma Christian came out of the gates on fire, notching a 219 average in Traditional play.
    • Shelby Davis (249) and Jaymie Burrow (242) paced the Eagles.
  • Kassidy Miller of Newman posted a team-high 234 individual game.
  • The Eagles continued to send pins flying, averaging 213.4 in the second stanza to clinch its spot in the title match.
 
CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH (12:30 PM CT)
 
No. 1 MARYVILLE (1024, 1093, 4) def. No. 3 OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN (1139, 1036, 3), 2-1
  • Oklahoma Christian couldn’t be stopped in the Traditional leg, recording a 228 average.
    • Davis improved on her first individual game, tallying a tournament-high 269 mark with eight consecutive strikes.
  • Maryville responded by averaging 218.6 in the Baker portion to tie the match at one.
  • The best-of-seven Baker series saw the Saints come back from down 3-1, thanks to a 232.3 average over the final three games.
 
With Sunday's victory, the No. 10-ranked Saints earned the GLVC's automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Women's Collegiate Bowling Championship, which is scheduled to begin at four pre-determined regional sites (Arlington, Texas; Lansing, Mich.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; Rochester, N.Y.) on April 3-5, with the National Championship slated for April 11-12 at Suncoast Bowling Center in Las Vegas. The NCAA will unveil the 19 teams selected for the NCAA Tournament online at NCAA.com at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 26. The Saints will be making their third-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament this season.
