INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced 189 men’s and women’s teams as recipients of the 2024-25 Team Academic All-GLVC award on Monday. The GLVC recognizes each team from full-time and associate member institutions that have maintained a 3.30 grade point average for the academic year.
The total of 189 honorees from 15 full-time and three associate member schools did not reach the 2019-20 record-breaking total of 207 from 15 schools but did surpass last year’s mark of 182 from 14 schools.
The Southwest Baptist University’s women’s tennis program registered the Conference’s highest team GPA with a 3.90 during the 2024-25 academic year. Second overall was the University of Illinois Springfield women’s tennis team at 3.89. They were followed by Maryville University women’s golf (3.86) and Rockhurst University’s women’s soccer (3.85) and Truman State University’s women’s cross country (3.85) teams to round out the top five.
The GLVC had 14 league members with 10 or more teams at or above a 3.30 which broke the Conference-record 13 set in 2019-20. Rockhurst had the highest number of sports meeting the distinguished 3.30 standard this year with 18.
Nine GLVC members either maintained or increased their totals from a year ago, and, of the 189 honored programs, 101 came from women’s sports with 88 from the men’s side.
Women’s swimming & diving (10), saw every team above the 3.30 mark. Among the other notables, men’s golf (12), women’s lacrosse (7), softball (14), men’s soccer (14), men’s tennis (10), and women’s tennis (11) had all but one program meet the threshold; while women’s basketball (13), men’s cross country (11), women’s cross country (13), women’s golf (11), women’s soccer (13), and volleyball (13) had all but two snag the honor.
Of the 101 women’s sports – which include indoor and outdoor track & field as one – nine had more than 80 percent of its participating schools achieve the GPA milestone, including swimming & diving (10/10, 100%), softball (14/15, 93.3%), tennis (11/12, 91.7%), lacrosse (7/8, 87.5%), basketball (13/15, 86.7%), cross country (13/15, 86.7%), soccer (13/15, 86.7%), volleyball (13/15, 86.7%), golf (11/13, 84.6%) - women’s track and field was above 70 percent (11/15, 73.3%) and women’s bowling was above 60 percent (5/8, 62.5%).
On the men’s side, soccer had the highest percentage of teams earn the honor with 14 of the 15 (93.3%). 12 of the 13 golf teams (92.3%), ten of the 11 tennis teams (90.9%) were above the 90-percent threshold. 11 of the 13 cross country teams (84.6%), ten of the 15 baseball (66.7%), seven of the 11 swimming & diving (63.6%), eight of the 14 track and field (57.1%), three of the six lacrosse (50%), five of the 15 basketball (33.3%), and 1 of the six wrestling (16.7%) round out the rest of the 88 programs.
In six of the previous seven seasons, including this year, women’s tennis was the sport most commonly found atop each school’s list. women’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s golf, and women’s swimming & diving followed with two, men’s golf, women’s soccer, and men’s tennis was the top sport for one school to round out the top teams.
