SOFTBALL CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
SIU Edwardsville sophomore shortstop Veronica Schmidt hit .524 in six games to help the Cougars clinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament to earn GLVC Co-Player of the Week. Schmidt collected 11 hits (11-21) on the week. She also scored six runs, hit two doubles and totaled six RBI. Her week included a 3-3 effort with three RBIs against Lincoln and a 5-for-9 doubleheader against St. Joseph's. She was also flawless in the field, handling 19 chances. She is from Westmont, Illinois.
University of Southern Indiana junior catcher Kristen Houseworth hit .538 with two home runs and four RBI to lead USI to a 4-0 week and earn Co-Player of the Week honors in the GLVC. Houseworth started the week with a 4-for-4 performance against NAIA No. 18-ranked McKendree College. She connected on a home run and collected two RBIs and three runs scored in that game. She also hit a two-run home run in the first game of a doubleheader against Quincy and went 2-4 in the night cap. She is a sociology major from Martinsville, Indiana.
