BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Northern Kentucky sophomore righthander Derrick Moeves set an NKU single-season strikeout record and tossed a complete-game shutout to go along with a save to earn Pitcher of the Week honors in the GLVC. It is the second week in a row that Moeves has earned Pitcher of the Week honors. Moeves tossed a one-hit shutout and struck out 12 batters Saturday as NKU defeated Southern Indiana, 1-0. He also set a Norse single-season record for strikeouts with 96. The previous NKU mark was 85, set by Mike Kichler in 1997. In addition, Moeves extended his streak of scoreless innings pitched to 15 straight as the Norse claimed the No. 2 seed in the GLVC Tournament. He has also not allowed an earned run in the past 28 innings and has a 1.62 earned run average this spring. Earlier in the week, Moeves pitched two innings of scoreless relief to notch his first save of the season as NKU held off Bellarmine, 4-3. For the week, Moeves was 1-0 with one save, pitched nine innings in two appearances with a 0.00 ERA, had 14 strikeouts and did not allow a walk. He is from Ft. Thomas, Ky.
