Pitcher of the Week
Northern Kentucky University freshman Amanda Smith is Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week helping the Norse to their 4-0 slate, recording wins over Quincy University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Smith posted a 3-0 record and allowed just two earned runs last week. She hurled a three-hitter at Quincy in a 6-1 win on Saturday, and she came back and pitched 1 1/3 innings in the nightcap as NKU pulled off the sweep with a 4-3 victory. Smith came back on Sunday and picked up a 10-2 win over UM-St. Louis. Smith is now 19-9 this season and is looking to become just the second freshman in Norse history to reach the 20-win plateau. She is from Canal Winchester, Ohio.
The #6 seed Norse face #3 Lewis University in game two of the 2006 GLVC Softball Tournament Friday at 10 a.m.
USI hosts St. Mary-of-the-Woods College Tuesday at 3 p.m.
