The 2011 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship will be held at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Ill. on April 18-19, 2011. It marks the 33rd annual GLVC Men's Golf Championship.
The 2011 event marks the first year the event will be held at Panther Creek after being conducted seven straight years at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind. Designed by Hale Irwin, Panther Creek features a 7,244-yard par 72 golf course with a course rating of 74.2 and a slope rating of 128. Panther Creek was the 2010 host of the LPGA State Farm Classic.
The tournament features a 54-hole format on the 72-par, 7,244-yard course. A total of 36 holes are played on the first day followed by 18 holes the second day of competition.
Bellarmine (5), Indianapolis (12), Kentucky Wesleyan (2), Lewis (5), Northern Kentucky (5), Southern Indiana (1), UW-Parkside (1) and former league-member Ashland (1) have each won the GLVC Men's Golf Championship.
Last season, Northern Kentucky won the GLVC Men's Golf Championship at Otter Creek G.C. by finishing with a 72-hole score of 881. The Norse, who claimed their fifth league title, defeated reigning champion Indianapolis by five strokes. Northern Kentucky's Danny Lewis claimed medalist honors with a three-under-par 213.
The top five finishers at the GLVC Men's Golf Championship are named All-GLVC and the top finishing individual earns medalist honors. The remaining golf awards are named following the spring season.
Admission to the 2011 GLVC Men's Golf Championship is free to the public.
