Volleyball Tournament Moves Back to Campus
After moving to a neutral site for the first time in its 31-year history, the Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament returns to campus this season on Nov. 22-24.
Four quarterfinal matches will be contested on Friday, Nov. 22, with the first beginning at 12 p.m. local time. A pair of semifinal matches will be played at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, with the championship match held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 24.
Ticket information will be announced during the week of the GLVC Championship Tournament once the host site has been determined. In the event that the No. 1 overall seed is unable or unwilling to host, the next highest-seeded team shall host.
Lewis leads the current conference contingent with eight titles, followed by UIndy’s four, Southern Indiana's two, and Rockhurst with one. As for former league members, IPFW earned eight titles, Northern Kentucky won seven, and Ashland and SIU Edwardsville captured one title each. Lewis has claimed four of the last seven titles, most recently in 2010.
In 2012, No. 2 West seed Rockhurst claimed its first-ever GLVC Championship with a 3-1 victory over No 2 East seed Lewis. The Hawks bested the Flyers by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 17-25, 25-21.
The remainder of the 2012 GLVC Championship Tournament field was comprised of No. 1 Indianapolis and No. 3 Bellarmine from the East Division, No. 1 Missouri S&T and No. 3 Missouri St. Louis from the West, as well as wildcard selections Southern Indiana and UW-Parkside.
