2016 GLVC Tennis Championships
The 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's & Women's Tennis Championships will be hosted by Lewis University on April 29-May 1. The 2016 event, which will be primarily held at the Lewis University Tennis Courts in Romeoville, Illinois, marks the 38th annual edition for the men and 36th for the women.
The top four teams based on the highest divisional winning percentage from each of the GLVC's two divisions earn a spot in the two eight-team tournaments. Both events are single elimination with the championship match conducted on Sunday.
For the second straight season, the GLVC Tennis Championships will be streamed live and free on the GLVC Sports Network. A complete schedule will be announced during championship week.
Bellarmine (8), Indianapolis (7), Southern Indiana (7), Drury (7), former league member Northern Kentucky (5), Rockhurst (2), and former league member SIU Edwardsville (2) have all claimed GLVC Men's Tennis Championshps.
Last year, No. 1 West seed Drury earned its second straight and seventh overall title with a 5-4 victory over No. 1 East seed Indianapolis at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The Panthers became the first men's squad to repeat as GLVC Champions since Drury won three straight from 2006-08.
On the women's side, Indianapolis (9), Drury (7), former league member Northern Kentucky (6), Saint Joseph's (6), Southern Indiana (3), Bellarmine (1), Lewis (1) and former league member SIU Edwardsville (1) have all recorded conference championships in the past.
No. 2 East seed UIndy earned its first GLVC title since 2005 last season with a 5-2 win over No. 1 West seed Drury, which had earned seven of the last eight league crowns coming into the event. The Greyhounds made the most of their first trio to the championship match since 2007.
Daily admission to the 2016 GLVC Tennis Championship Tournament is free of charge.
