McFarlane was promoted to Assistant Commissioner for Communications and Creative Content in July 2026 after previously serving as Director of Communications and Creative Content and Assistant Director of Communications since joining the league office in January 2023.
McFarlane oversees the GLVC's digital strategy, social media platforms, branding, and graphic design, while serving as the Conference's primary photographer and creative content producer at GLVC Championships. His responsibilities also include managing the league's day-to-day communications efforts through press releases, feature stories, and website content, as well as assisting with oversight of the GLVC Sports Network (GLVCSN). In his expanded role, he will continue leading those efforts while assuming additional administrative responsibilities within the Conference office.
Since joining the GLVC, McFarlane has played a key role in enhancing the Conference's digital presence and brand identity. He spearheaded the development and launch of the league's "Create Your Legacy" brand campaign, while leading creative initiatives across the Conference’s social media platforms, championship events, and digital communications.
Under McFarlane's direction, the Conference has experienced significant growth across its digital platforms, highlighted by a substantial increase in social media engagement and followers. The league’s Instagram page (@glvcsports) hit 25 million impressions in 2025-26, along with its following growing by nearly 150 percent since January 2023. His work has also earned national recognition through College Sports Communicators (CSC), where he was named the 2025-26 College Division Photographer of the Year after previously finishing fourth nationally.
McFarlane arrived to the league office after a sports information internship in the athletics department at Florida State University, where he assisted with various sports, including football, baseball, men’s and women’s track and field, men’s and women’s swim and dive, volleyball, and women’s soccer. In his role, McFarlane aided with several social media accounts, wrote press releases and postgame recaps, updated information on the Florida State athletics website (seminoles.com), distributed team statistics, and maintained relationships with local and national media members.
While in college, McFarlane earned experience in sports through multiple avenues. He served as the media relations intern for the Eau Claire Express, a summer collegiate baseball team in the Northwoods League (NWL), during the 2021 season. Additionally, the recent graduate was a member of the grounds crew at Florida State and with the St. Paul Saints, a minor league baseball Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. He also gained experience through volunteering for the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Football Championships and Cross Country State Finals.
McFarlane earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sport management from Florida State in December 2022. Originally from Antigo, Wisconsin, he participated in five sports throughout high school, including baseball, bowling, cross country, soccer, and tennis.
