Mark Winters was named Supervisor of Baseball Umpires on September 25, 2023. He comes to the GLVC with 29 years of umpiring experience at various levels including Division I, professional, and Olympics. He spent 11 years in professional baseball, reaching AAA crew chief status in Minor League Baseball. Winters also has extensive experience internationally, umpiring in the Dominican Republic Winter League (2002-04), 2004 Caribbean World Series, 2006 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, 2017 Asian Championship, 2019 Pan American Games, and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The Springfield, Illinois native is entering his 19th year as a Division I umpire – primarily working in the Big 12 and SEC – and has worked numerous Big 12 Conference Tournaments, NCAA Regionals, and Super Regionals. In addition to his on-field duties, Winters serves as the umpire assigner for the Great Rivers Athletics Conference (JUCO) and Prospect League Midwest Region. He is also heavily involved in the training and promotion of college umpires, helping to lead four training camps every year.
Winters has been married to his wife Amy for 12 years, and they have two children: Abi and Mia.
