The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) named Pete Mankowich its first Coordinator of Officials for the sport of wrestling, the league announced on Tuesday, June 29, 2021.
As part of his duties as Coordinator of Officials, Mankowich will schedule and conduct annual clinics directed toward the development of GLVC officials; assign officials for all Conference competition, including home non-conference competition; selecting and recommending officials for participating in the NCAA DII Championships; evaluating each official and implementing appropriate disciplinary action deemed to be guilty of misconduct; and serving on NCAA Officials Evaluation Committee at NCAA DII Championships, among other duties assigned by the Commissioner.
Along with his vast experience in local high school and collegiate wrestling, Mankowich has history assigning officials for several GLVC institutions. A resident of Chesterfield, Mo., Mankowich has worked extensively with Drury University, Maryville University, McKendree University, and Lindenwood University, and Ouachita Baptist University, as well as the St. Louis Wrestling Officials Association (SLWOA) for high school competition. Mankowich is the former President of the SLWOA.
Mankowich has assigned officials for each of the past eight American Midwest Conference (AMC) events, and has been part of the Intercollegiate Wrestling Officials Association (ICWOA) for the last six years. Currently, he serves as in the role of Past President with the organization, which allowed Mankowich to develop relationships with officials across the country and gain experience with Arbiter and Blue Zebra assigning software.
Prior to becoming an official, Mankowich earned a high school state title in New York. He then moved on to become an assistant coach for eventual NCAA DIII national champion State University of New York (SUNY) Brockport in 1992 and served on the NYS National Team coaching staff.
