Lindsey Williams was promoted to Assistant Commissioner for Strategic Communications in December 2020 after she began her duties with the league as Director of Communications on Feb. 26, 2015. She joined the GLVC after serving in a variety of roles at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels.
In her role as Assistant Commissioner, Williams manages the GLVC Sports Network (GLVCSN) – the inclusive league-wide digital streaming platform – leads branding and marketing efforts, coordinates the GLVC awards program, and assists with the management of league Championships. She also has oversight of GLVCsports.com and the league's social media efforts, as well as several coaching groups and conducts their annual business meetings. Additionally, she oversees the GLVC Records Book expansion and serves as the direct liaison to the Sports Information Directors (SID) group, as well as primary media contact on behalf of the league.
As the Director of Communications, Williams was the direct liaison to the Sports Information Directors (SID) group. She oversaw the promotion of several of the league's 24 sports and administered a number of SID and coaching group meetings. She produced weekly coverage for her assigned sports, compiled and distributed statistics, updated the Conference Web site (GLVCSsports.com), and managed all social media platforms. Moreover, she assisted with the administration and promotion of the league's 24 GLVC Championships and contributed to the GLVCSN.
In the pursuit of professional development, Williams has attended all College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) – now College Sports Communicators (CSC) – annual conventions since joining the league and is an active member of the organization, serving on the Publications and Design Committee. She is also a member of the Division 2 Conference Information Directors Association (D2CIDA) and serves as an at-large board member. Additionally, Williams attended the 2016 NACWAA (now Women Leaders in College Sports) Rally and served as the GLVC's representative at the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum that same year, as well. Furthermore, she has traveled to the NCAA Women's Basketball Regional or Elite Eight the first five years of her tenure with the Conference.
Williams arrived to the GLVC following a one-year appointment at Turner Broadcasting Systems, Inc., working specifically for Turner Sports on the NCAA.com Digital Web Operations team. Her responsibilities included monitoring and troubleshooting all 89 NCAA Championships streamed through Turner's home office in Atlanta, Georgia, while also updating and maintaining select pages of the NCAA.com website. She assisted with mobile upgrades, new product launches, and advertising and sponsorship campaigns for NCAA Digital, as well.
Prior to her stint at Turner, she served as a graduate assistant coach for the University of Evansville women's soccer program from 2012-14, which saw her mentor the goalkeepers while overseeing all social media accounts and video management for the team. It was there she completed her Master of Science degree in public service administration in the spring of 2014. She also managed the instant replay system at the Ford Center for UE's men's and women's basketball games, the 2014 Deaconess GLVC Championship Tournament, and the 2014 NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
Born in Evansville but raised primarily in Princeton, New Jersey, Williams has a diverse background in the field of sports information. While earning her undergraduate degree in communications/journalism at Virginia Wesleyan College (now University) in Norfolk, Virginia, Williams served as the sports editor for the VWC Marlin Chronicle and as an intern in the athletic department's sports information office.
During her time on campus, Williams was also an accomplished soccer player, so much so that she was inducted into the Virginia Wesleyan College Athletic Hall of Fame on Feb. 21, 2015. Williams was the goalie on the 2006 women's soccer NCAA Division III national semifinalist and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championship team – which was also inducted into the Virginia Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame on Feb. 9, 2019. She owns the top-three VWC single season goals against averages and VWC career goals against average (.429), has the second-best single-season saves percentage (.893 in 2006), ranks third in career saves percentage (.867), and is fourth in program history in total career saves (196). Over the course of her career, she was named a NSCAA (now United Soccer Coaches) first-team All-American in 2007, All-South Region honoree in 2007, All-Virginia selection in 2006 and 2007, a three-time All-ODAC member (2005-second team, 2006-honorable mention, 2007-first team), an All-ODAC Tournament pick in 2006 and 2007, and a CoSIDA Academic All-District second team designee in 2006.
Following graduation, she was hired as the media relations intern for the Northeast Conference in Somerset, New Jersey. At the NEC, she served its 12 member institutions as the media relations contact for seven conference sports, including men's and women's golf, women's soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, and volleyball, while also assisting with the marketing and management of its 21 league championships.
After spending the 2009-10 season at the NEC, Williams took on the role of athletics media relations assistant at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, where she covered women's lacrosse and men's and women's tennis, while managing the Lancers' social media and video production efforts from 2010-12.
Williams resides in Indianapolis, Indiana.
