UIndy, S&T Hold Lead at GLVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

ROLLA, Mo. – The University of Indianapolis and Missouri S&T will head into the final day of the 2021 Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships as the leader in the respective women’s and men’s competitions, which are being held at Allgood-Bailey Stadium on the campus of Missouri S&T in Rolla, Missouri.

The Greyhounds, who finished the 2019 GLVC Championships in second, and the Miners, who were third at the last meet, currently hold double-digit leads entering Saturday’s final day of the meet.

On the women’s side, UIndy owns 76 points, followed by defending GLVC Champion Lewis University (57.50 points), Southwest Baptist University (35), University of Southern Indiana (26), and Maryville University (19) in the top five. Lindenwood University (16.50), and University of Illinois Springfield (15), and Truman State University (11) were sixth through eighth, while host Missouri S&T (9), and William Jewell College (8) round out the 10 teams that have scored so far in ninth and 10th.

In the men’s race, S&T boasts 84 points and owns a 40-point advantage over defending league champion UIndy (44), while Southwest Baptist (41) is just three points back from the Hounds with Southern Indiana (23( in fourth and Lewis (18) rounding out the top five. McKendree (16) is sixth, Lindenwood (14) sits seventh, and Truman State (12) and Illinois Springfield (12) are tied for eighth. Maryville rounds out the 10 teams with nine points.

In Friday’s events, UIndy sophomore Brittany Clark (3.95 meters) and SBU senior Trenton Finley (4.94m) both picked up NCAA provisional qualifying marks with their winning clearances in the pole vault. 

Lewis sophomore Natasha Bernett (5.85m) and SBU freshman Parker Love (7.27m) scored wins and provisional marks in the long jump, while Lewis junior Kylie Wymer (14.70m) and S&T sophomore Nathan Swadley (17.87m) placed first in the shot put with provisional marks.
 
In the heptathlon, Maryville senior Casey Berberich successfully defended her title with 4,856 points, while S&T freshman Jadon Kilpack got the decathlon win with 6,053 points.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, SBU senior Stephanie Penticuff (11:00.41) and S&T sophomore Hayes Pateidl (9:15.22) closed out the night with wins.

Preliminaries were also contested in several events, including the 100, 200, 400, and 800 meters, as well as the 100-, 110-, and 400-meter hurdles.

In Saturday’s field events, which begin at 9 a.m. CT, the men and women will both compete in the finals of the javelin, high jump, triple jump, and discus.

Running events commence at 12 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay. The 1,500 and 5,000 meters will also be contested, along with the finals of the aforementioned running events that were held Friday. The GLVC Championships conclude with the 4x400-meter relay, with the men’s race beginning at approximately 3:25 p.m. CT.
