Lewis Set to Host the
2014 GLVC Cross Country Championships

The 2014 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Lewis University Cross Country Course on the campus of Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois.

For the first time in league history, the GLVC Cross Country Championships will be streamed tape-delayed on the GLVC Sports Network.  The date and time the event will air is still to be determined.

The 2014 Cross Country Championships will open with the 36th annual 30th men's 8,000-meter run at 10:30 a.m., followed by the 31st annual women's 6,000-meter run at 11:30 p.m.

The top-placing men's and women's teams will be named the 2014 GLVC Champion, respectively. In addition, the top 15 men individual finishers and the top 15 women individual finishers will be named All-GLVC and the medalist of each race will be named the GLVC Runners of the Year. The top finishing freshman on both sides will garner GLVC Freshman of the Year honors.

Southern Indiana is the defending champion on the men's side having collected its ninth-straight conference title and league-best 21st overall crown at the 2013 event, which was hosted by Maryville at Forest Park in St. Louis, Missouri.  The Screaming Eagles scored 24 points in the victory and posted all seven runners among the conference's top-15 finishers.  Lewis finished second with 88 points, followed by Bellarmine (100) in third.  The win marked the first occasion that any school in any sport in the 35-year history of the GLVC had won nine-straight conference titles.

On the women’s side, Southern Indiana enters this year’s event on the heels of its third straight title in 2013.  The Screaming Eagles scored 56 points and topped runner-up UW-Parkside (75) and third-place finisher Lewis (82) for their eighth overall conference crown and fifth in the last six years.
