Southern Indiana Set to Host the
2019 GLVC Cross Country Championships

The 2019 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Angel Mounds in Evansville, Indiana, and Southern Indiana will serve as host.

For the sixth-straight season, the GLVC Cross Country Championships will be streamed tape-delayed on the GLVC Sports Network. The date and time the event will air is still to be determined.

The 2019 postseason race will open with the 36th annual women's 6,000-meter run at 10:30 a.m,, followed by the 41st annual men's 8,000-meter run at 11:30 a.m. ET.

The top-placing men's and women's teams will be named the 2019 GLVC Champion, respectively. In addition, the top-15 individual men's finishers and the top-15 individual women's finishers will be named All-GLVC, and the medalist of each race will be named the GLVC Runners of the Year. The top-finishing freshman on both sides will garner GLVC Freshman of the Year honors.

Indianapolis earned its second overall and first GLVC Championship since 1992 last year at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.  UIndy’s five scorers posted top-20 finishes, including three that garnered All-Conference distinction.  The win earned third-year head coach Brad Robinson GLVC Coach of the Year honors – the first for the program since Tom Hathaway was recognized by his peers following the school’s first title in 1992.

Truman State (103 points) finished second overall, followed by Drury (114) and Missouri S&T (129) in third and fourth, respectively.  Southern Indiana, the seven-time defending champion and the winner of a GLVC record 12 titles, placed fifth with 131 points.

Individually, Drury sophomore Claire McCune crossed the line first with a new school-record 6,000-meter time of 21 minutes, 14.92 seconds.  The reigning GLVC Runner and Freshman of the Year picked up her second top honor from the Conference after breaking the previous school record by 13 seconds with an eight-second victory over runner-up Karly Gawarecki of Bellarmine (21:22.36).

On the men's side, USI extended its league record with its 14th consecutive title, totaling 38 points on the day by placing all five scorers in the top 15 for All-Conference recognition.

The victory gave USI its league-best 26th GLVC crown, while the current streak of 14 straight titles is the longest for any team in any sport in Conference history.

Lewis finished second for the third consecutive season, earning 77 points with two scorers garnering All-GLVC recognition. Illinois Springfield (85 points) continued its surge through the team standings, finishing third overall after placing 13th, 10th and eighth the last three years.  Indianapolis (92) and host Bellarmine (116) rounded out the top five.

For the 16th time in GLVC history, an individual claimed back-to-back league titles as Southern Indiana junior Austin Nolan crossed the line first in 24 minutes, 6.23 seconds.
