Five GLVC Volleyball Teams Earn Bid to NCAA Midwest Regional



INDIANAPOLIS – Five Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) volleyball teams have earned a bid to the 64-team 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship, it was announced Monday night. University of Missouri-St. Louis will be the 1-seed and play host to 3-seed Lewis University, 4-seed Quincy University, 6-seed Rockhurst University, 8-seed Missouri S&T, and the remaining field in the Midwest Region.

The GLVC Regular Season Champion and fourth-ranked Tritons (30-1) garnered the top seed in the Midwest Region and hosting duties for the first time ever. UMSL will face eighth-seeded Missouri S&T (18-10) in the opening round in its fourth consecutive and seventh overall trip to the NCAA postseason. The Miners are competing for the third time ever but first since 2014.

GLVC Tournament Champion, 11th-ranked, and third-seeded Lewis (26-6) will take on sixth-seeded Rockhurst (21-7) in another first-round match, as the Flyers' streak of 17 consecutive NCAA trips is the longest of all women's volleyball teams in the Midwest Region and longest ever of any Lewis program since the Flyers joined the NCAA D-II ranks in 1981. The Hawks have received their 16th overall and ninth consecutive invitation to the NCAA Regional.

Fourth-seeded and 23rd-ranked Quincy (24-5) will be playing in its second overall and consecutive NCAA postseason, facing off against fifth-seeded Grand Valley State.  

Also playing in the regional will be 2-seed Ferris State (25-7) vs. 7-seed Hillsdale (27-6).

All matches will be played at the Mark Twain Building in St. Louis, Mo.

Eight teams were selected from each of the following eight regions: Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, Southeast, South Central and West. All eight eight-team regionals will be played at on-campus sites. Regional competition will be single-elimination, best three-of-five-set matches and will not include a third-place match. The winners of each of the eight regionals will advance to the finals, Dec. 1-3, at the Royal Brougham Pavilion in Seattle, Washington. Competition at the finals site will be single-elimination; best three-of-five-set matches.
