Drury, Truman Tabbed GLVC Women’s Basketball Postseason Honorees



INDIANAPOLIS – Truman State University senior guard Hannah Belanger, as well as Drury University graduate guard Terrion Moore, freshman forward/guard Reese Schaaf, and head coach Amy Eagan have earned major postseason honors for the 2022-23 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Women’s Basketball season, the league office announced on Wednesday.
 
Belanger was named Player of the Year, Moore earned Defensive Player of the Year, Schaaf garnered Freshman of the Year, and Eagan was dubbed Coach of the Year by her peers. In total, 31 student-athletes claimed All-Conference honors and seven were named to the All-Freshman team, while 13 were chosen as GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship honorees for the sport and William Jewell College was selected as the team sportsmanship award winner.

The All-Conference awards are nominated and voted on by league coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own players.
 
Player of the Year: Hannah Belanger, Senior, Guard, Truman State
  • Wins first Player of the Year award in Truman State history.
  • Led league in points (602, 21.5/game), field goals made (212), three-point field goal percentage (.465, 92-of-198), and free throw percentage (.851, 86-of-101) in 28 games played.
  • Led league in GLVC-only contests for points (415, 20.8/game), three-point field goal percentage (.486, 67-of-138), and free throw percentage (.870, 60-of-69) in 20 games played.
  • Recorded third-highest field goal percentage overall (.513) and sixth-highest in GLVC contests (.526).
  • Added overall stats of 117 rebounds (4.2/game), 63 assists, and 21 steals, while recording 83 rebounds (4.2/game) in GLVC matches plus 43 assists (2.2/game).
  • Named GLVC Player of the Week on Dec. 5, Jan. 16, and Jan. 30.
  • Helped Bulldogs to 19-9 overall record and 15-5 Conference record, as well as third seed in GLVC Tournament.
  • One of two unanimous selections to the All-GLVC First Team, earning her third-straight All-Conference honor on the First Team.
 
Defensive Player of the Year: Terrion Moore, Graduate Student, Guard, Drury
  • Becomes Drury’s fourth Defensive Player of the Year in the eight-year history of the award.
  • Was second in the league overall in steals per game (2.1) and tied for fourth in blocks (21) in 28 games, placing fourth in blocks per game (0.9) and fifth in steals per game (1.8) through 20 GLVC contests.
  • Grabbed 135 (4.8/game) rebounds overall and 89 (4.5) in GLVC contests, including 100 and 64 came on the defensive glass, respectively.
  • Started all 28 games, averaging 13.0 points per game overall in 28.6 minutes and 13.7 in GLVC-only games in 27.6 minutes.
  • Shot .483 from the field, .350 from three, and .694 from the foul line overall, and .502 from the field, .321 from three, and .686 from the foul line in GLVC action.
  • Named GLVC Player of the Week on Nov. 21.
  • Named to All-GLVC First Team for her second career All-Conference selection and first on the First Team.
 
Freshman of the Year: Reese Schaaf, Forward/Guard, Drury
  • Becomes Drury’s fifth Freshman of the Year and first since 2019 when Paige Robinson was honored.
  • Led league freshmen with a .497 field-goal percentage on 78-of-157 shooting and a .400 three-point field goal percentage on 22-of-55 shooting in all games.
  • Ranks second in the GLVC with a .449 shooting percentage from the field and .341 from the free-throw line.
  • Helped second-ranked Panthers to outright GLVC Regular Season Championship and top seed in GLVC Tournament.
  • Only freshmen named to All-Conference Team and only unanimous choice on All-Freshman Team.
 
Chuck Mallender Coach of the Year: Amy Eagan, Drury
  • Voted by her peers as Coach of the Year, marking her first career accolade as the top league coach and fifth time for a Drury mentor to be honored.
  • Led Panthers to 27-1 overall record and 20-0 GLVC record, as well as earning the outright GLVC Regular Season Championship and top seed in GLVC Tournament.
  • Ranked No. 2 in WBCA Poll.
  • In addition to guiding Moore and Schaaf to major awards and All-Conference distinction, she mentored senior forward and unanimous selection Alana Findley, as well as graduate guard Kaylee DaMitz-Holt to the All-GLVC First Team.

Joining Belanger, Moore, Findley, and DaMitz-Holt on the First Team were two others from Lewis University that included senior guard Grace Hilber and junior forward Kathryn Schmidt, as well as Maryville University senior guard Antoinette Mussorici, Missouri S&T senior center Alex Kerr, University of Missouri-St. Louis sophomore guard Jalysa Stokes, and Truman redshirt-senior forward Ellie Weltha.
 
William Jewell College earned the sport’s GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team Award, while 13 student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior were also recognized. These individuals must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from full-time GLVC member institutions are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
