Maryville, Lewis Chosen as GLVC Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Favorites



INDIANAPOLIS – Both Maryville University and Lewis University were voted in the preseason coaches’ poll as the choices to win the 2024 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) men’s lacrosse championship, the league office announced on Wednesday.

The preseason poll is selected by the league’s head coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own team.
 
T-No. 1 Maryville
  • Received four first-place votes and 30 total points.
  • Earned No. 3 seed in 2023 GLVC Championship.
  • Coached by reigning tri-GLVC Coach of the Year Scott Stark, who enters his fourth season after a 8-6 overall and 3-2 GLVC record in 2023.
  • Return First Team All-GLVC selections Clayton Cerett, Garrett Rivers, and Reid Usrey, as well as Second Team honoree Shea Raeburn.

T-No. 1 Lewis
  • Received one first-place vote and 30 total points.
  • Ranked No. 19 in USA Lacrosse Magazine Division II Preseason Poll.
  • Earned No. 4 seed and advanced to GLVC Championship title game last year.
  • Coached by Joe Perruzzi, who enters his fifth year after a 10-6 overall and 2-3 GLVC record in 2023.
  • Return GLVC Goalkeeper of the Year, Riah Rathe, Second Team All-GLVC honorees Evan Clement, Kai George, and Zack Merwin, as well as Honorable Mention selections Kevin Blaz and Domenic Tarello.

T-No. 3 Rockhurst
  • Received two first-place votes and 27 total points.
  • Appeared just outside the top-20 in USA Lacrosse Magazine D-II Preseason Poll.
  • Won first-ever GLVC Championship as No. 3 seed last season.
  • Coached by reigning tri-GLVC Coach of the Year Kevin Kelley, who enters his 11th season after a 10-5 overall and 3-2 GLVC record in 2023.
  • Return Honorable Mention All-GLVC selections Matt Campion and Lars Yarkosky.
 
 T-No. 3 Indianapolis
  • Received 27 total points.
  • Ranked No. 10 in USA Lacrosse Magazine D-II Preseason Poll.
  • Won Regular Season league title and earned top seed in GLVC Championship last year.
  • Secured fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance as the No. 6 seed, advancing to the Quarterfinals after an upset win over No. 3 Wingate.
  • Coached by reigning tri-GLVC Coach of the Year Greg Stocks, who enters his third season after a 12-4 overall and 5-0 GLVC record in 2023.
  • Return GLVC Specialist of the Year, Caleb Parker, fellow First Team All-GLVC selection Wyatt Auyer, Second Team honorees Dougie Crawford and Nick Randgaard, and Honorable Mention selection Triston Schaffer.

Rounding out the poll respectively in fifth through seventh was Davenport University (14 points), Quincy University (13), and William Jewell College (6).
