INDIANAPOLIS –The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II All-Region Teams were recently announced, and eight Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) standouts were recognized on the Midwest Region Team. Additionally, University of Missouri-St. Louis setter Caitlin Bishop was named the Player of the Year for the region.
Bishop, the GLVC Playerof the Year and First Team All-GLVC selection, led the Tritons with 12.46 assists per set heading into Thursday's NCAA Tournament contest against Indianapolis. She ranks top of Division II in total assists (1,346) and assists per set. She has won GLVC Setter of the Week a record 22 times in her career, earning seven honors this season.
Young, named the AVCA's Midwest Region Coach of the Year for the third time in four seasons guiding the Tritons to a 26-4 record including 13-0 in the GLVC, a GLVC championship and the number one seed in the Midwest Regional this weekend.
Bishop’s Triton teammates of libero Skylar Weaver and outside hitter Alayna Santel also garnered First Team honors. Indianapolis’ outside hitter Paige Parlanti, Quincy’s outside hitter Susanna Beretti, and Rockhurst outside hitter Sarah Pyle, joined the UMSL trio on the First Team.
On the Honorable Mention squad was Rockhurst middle hitter Delaney Hope and Quincy setter Elena Kasavica.
