INDIANAPOLIS — Drury University won the Men’s National Championship while, 16 individuals and four relay teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) were named National Champions last week at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships in Indianapolis at the IU Natatorium.
The University of Indianapolis men’s (1:24.68) and women’s (1:38.30) 200 Medley Relay teams collected the relay National titles. Indianapolis women’s 200 Free Relay team (1:30.37) and Drury’s men’s 400 Medley Relay team (3:06.75) also earned a National title. Drury also saw 10 National tiles won, including Mellie Wijk (200 IM and 200 Fly), Jonette Laegreid (100 Breast and 200 Breast), Ivan Adamchuk (200 IM, 100 Back, and 200 Back), Israel Zavaleta (3M Diving and 1M Diving), and Davi Mourao (200 Breast). Indianapolis added four of their own, Andrea Gomez Espinoza (1000 Free and 400 IM), Jeremias Pock (400 IM), and Brayden Cole (100 Breast). Jackson Lustig won the 100 Fly and 200 Fly to give McKendree University a pair of National titles.
Four teams from the Conference finished in the top 10 on the men’s side after last weekend’s conclusion. Drury won their 13th national title overall, with McKendree and Indianapolis placing in the top five right behind the Panthers in third and fifth, respectively. Lewis University was the other top-10 finisher in seventh place, while Missouri S&T was 19th and Quincy University finished in 29th.
It was Drury on the women’s side, too, that led the league in the standings with a second-place showing, while Indianapolis placed fourth, followed by McKendree (18th), University of Missouri-St. Louis (20th), Truman State University (25th), and William Jewell College (32nd), and Lewis (44th).
The top-eight finishers in each event were named All-Americans, and the complete results can be found at the link above. In total, GLVC swimmers and divers accounted for 77 individual All-America honors and 26 relay recognitions.
