INDIANAPOLIS – Upper Iowa University graduate forward Nick Reid, University of Missouri-St. Louis junior forward/center Troy Glover II, Quincy University freshman guard Max Booher, and Missouri S&T head mentor Bill Walker have earned major postseason honors for the 2024-25 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Men’s Basketball season, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Reid was named Player of the Year, Glover II earned Defensive Player of the Year, Booher garnered Freshman of the Year, and Walker was dubbed Coach of the Year by his peers. In total, 20 student-athletes claimed All-Conference honors, 10 earned All-Defensive Team honors, five were named to the All-Freshman team, while 15 were chosen as GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship honorees for the sport.
The All-Conference awards are nominated and voted on by league coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own players.
Player of the Year: Nick Reid, Graduate, Forward, Upper Iowa
- Wins second-straight Player of the Year award for the Peacocks after Jake Hilmer won last season.
- Led league overall (23.9) and in GLVC-only games (24.8) for points per game and finished second in overall rebounds per game (8.3).
- Recorded 58 assists, 28 steals, 18 blocks, and eight double-doubles.
- Ranked ninth in Division II for points per game.
- Started all 28 games played.
- Scored in double figures in every game this season, including eight games with 30-plus points.
- Registered seven of the top-20 scoring performances in the league this season.
- Tabbed to Bevo Francis Top 50 Watch List.
- Named GLVC Player of the Week on Nov. 25, Dec. 23, and Jan. 20
- Helped Peacocks to third seed in GLVC Tournament.
- Named to All-GLVC First Team.
Defensive Player of the Year: Troy Glover II, Forward/Center, Junior, Missouri-St. Louis
- Wins UMSL’s fifth Defensive Player of the Year award in the last six years after Steve Webb won three consecutive from 2020 to 2022 and Isaiah Fuller in 2023.
- Led league in overall (52; 1.9) and GLVC-only games (43; 2.2) for total blocks and blocks per game.
- Tied with the most single-game blocks (five) against Rockhurst on Jan. 11.
- Ranks 20th in NCAA DII in blocks per game.
- Added 27 steals on the season, including 23 in GLVC games.
- Played in all 27 games, starting 26 contests.
- Averaged 10.4 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game, shooting .641 from the field.
- Sits third overall in rebounds per game (8.1) and second in GLVC-only contests (9.1).
- Helped Tritons to second seed in GLVC Tournament.
- Named to All-Defensive Team.
Freshman of the Year: Max Booher, Guard, Quincy
- Wins Quincy’s second Freshman of the Year honor, with Brian McNeil claiming the other award in 2000.
- Led GLVC true freshmen in Conference games with 12.58 points per game, 82 field goals made, 46 three-point field goals made, .362 three-point percentage, .806 free throw percentage, and 587 minutes played.
- Appeared in 25 games, starting 24 contests.
- Shot .424 from the field, .402 from three, and .800 from the foul line during the season with 67 rebounds, 17 assists, 10 steals, and one block.
- Named to All-Freshman Team.
Coach of the Year: Bill Walker, Missouri S&T
- Earns Coach of the Year award for first time and the second GLVC major award in program history.
- Led S&T to winningest regular season in school history, posting a 23-4 overall record and 17-3 GLVC mark in his sixth season.
- Boasted most overall points per game (84.8), scoring margin (11.7), field goal percentage (.502), defensive rebounds per game (27.9), and blocks per game (4.15).
- Finished second in assists per game (15.07) and steals (8.00).
- Ranked first in GLVC-only games for blocks per game (4.05), while landing second in points per game (81.4) and scoring margin (6.4).
- Directed Miners to the 1-seed in this week’s GLVC Tournament after being picked 10th in the preseason coaches’ poll.
- Achieved highest seed in league tournament in program history.
- Mentored guard Lovell Williams and forward Andrew Young to the All-GLVC First Team, Williams and guard Alex Benassi to the All-Defensive squad, and forward Zac Brown to the All-Freshman team.
Joining Reid, Williams, and Young on the First Team was Lewis University forward Rob Stroud, Lincoln University forward Franck Yetna, and the UMSL duo of guard Matt Enright and guard/forward Emanuel Prospere II. The last three spots were occupied by Rockhurst University guard Brian Hawthorne, Truman State University guard Xavier Hall, and William Jewell College guard Jordan Jermain.
William Jewell earned the sport’s GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team Award, while 15 student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior were also recognized. These individuals must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from full-time GLVC member institutions are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
