Lewis, Maryville, S&T, Quincy Earn GLVC Women’s Basketball Major Awards



INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis University graduate student guard Taylor Gugliuzza and Missouri S&T senior forward/center Katelynne Roberts, as well as Maryville University freshman guard Lindsey Schadewalt and Quincy head coach Courtney Boyd have earned major postseason honors for the 2024-25 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Women’s Basketball season, the league office announced on Wednesday.
 
Gugliuzza was named Player of the Year, Roberts earned Defensive Player of the Year, Schadewalt garnered Freshman of the Year, and Boyd was dubbed Coach of the Year by her peers. In total, 30 student-athletes claimed All-Conference honors and five were named to the All-Freshman team, while 15 were chosen as GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship honorees for the sport and William Jewell College was selected as the team sportsmanship award winner.

The All-Conference awards are nominated and voted on by league coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own players.
 
Player of the Year: Taylor Gugliuzza, Graduate Student, Guard, Lewis
  • Wins tenth Player of the Year award in Lewis history and first since Jessica Kelliher was honored in 2018-19.
  • Fourth in the league in points per game (16.2), while also finishing fifth in total free throws made (106), eighth in field goals made (138), and eighth in total points (421).
  • Third in GLVC-only contests in points per game (17.6), fourth in total points (334), fourth in field goals made (114), and fifth in field goal percentage (.500) in 19 games played.
  • Added overall stats of 69 assists (2.7/game), 127 rebounds (4.9/game), and 34 steals, while recording 49 assists (2.6/game) in GLVC matches plus 95 rebounds (5.0/game), and 23 steals.
  • Named GLVC Player of the Week on Jan. 27.
  • Helped Flyers to 25-2 overall record and 19-1 Conference record, as well as the top seed in GLVC Tournament.
  • Earns her fourth-straight All-Conference selection and first on the First Team.
 
Defensive Player of the Year: Katelynne Roberts, Senior, Forward/Center, Missouri S&T
  • Becomes Missouri S&T’s first major award winner in program history.
  • Finished first in the league overall in blocks per game (2.3) in 26 games, while also placing first in blocks per game (2.4) in 20 GLVC contests.
  • Grabbed 155 (6.0/game) rebounds overall and 121 (6.1/game) in GLVC matches, landing 16th and 17th in the league rankings, respectively.
  • Started all 26 games, averaging 12.0 points per game overall and 12.9 in GLVC-only games.
  • Shot .516 from the field overall and .514 in GLVC action, placing fourth in the Conference in both.
  • Named to All-GLVC Second Team for her second career All-Conference selection and first on the Second Team.
 
Freshman of the Year: Lindsey Schadewalt, Guard, Maryville
  • Becomes Maryville’s second Freshman of the Year and first since 2011-12 when Shelby Miller garnered the award.
  • Led league freshmen overall points per game (12.4), field goals made (124), three pointers made (42) and free throws made (56).
  • Ranked first among freshmen in GLVC-only contests with 13.4 points per game, 91 field goals made, 38 three pointers made, and 48 free throws made.
 
Coach of the Year: Courtney Boyd, Quincy
  • Third coach in Quincy history to win the award, joining Larry Just (3) and J.D. Gravina (2) with Gravina winning the last in 2010-11.
    • Sixth time a Quincy head coach has won the GLVC Coach of the Year
  • Led Hawks to 22-7 overall record and 16-4 GLVC record, as well as the third seed in the GLVC Tournament after being voted to finish tied for seventh in the league’s preseason poll.
  • She mentored graduate student guard Nicole McDermott to a first-team selection, senior forward Cymirah Williams to the All-GLVC Third Team, and sophomore guard Mariann Blass to the All-GLVC Third Team.

Joining Gugliuzza and McDermott on the First Team were two from Drury that included senior guard Caitlynn Daniels and sophomore guard Rhi Gibbons, as well as Lewis University redshirt-senior guard Jenna Badali, Maryville University senior guard Gracie Stugart, McKendree University sophomore forward Baylie Parks, Missouri S&T redshirt-sophomore guard Anna Finley, Truman State graduate guard Jordan Cunningham, and Upper Iowa senior guard Mia Huberty.
 
William Jewell earned the sport’s GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team Award, while 15 student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior were also recognized. These individuals must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from full-time GLVC member institutions are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
