Rockhurst, Maryville, Lewis Awarded GLVC Men’s Lacrosse Major Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – The Rockhurst University trio of sophomore attacker Jonah McConnell, junior goalkeeper Brock Ollila, and freshman midfielder Nolan Hartl, along with Lewis University senior specialist Domenic Tarello, Maryville University junior long-stick midfielder John Chorlton, and Saints mentor Scott Stark have all earned major postseason honors for the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Men’s Lacrosse season, the league office announced on Wednesday.
 
McConnell was named Offensive Player of the Year, Chorlton earned Defensive Player of the Year, Tarello was selected as Specialist of the Year, Ollila garnered Goalkeeper of the Year, Hartl was tabbed Freshman of the Year, while Stark was voted Coach of the Year by his peers. In total, 52 student-athletes claimed All-Conference honors, while six were chosen as GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship honorees for the sport and University of Indianapolis was the team sportsmanship award winner. 

The All-Conference awards are nominated and voted on by league coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own players.

Offensive Player of the Year: Jonah McConnell, Sophomore, Attacker, Rockhurst
  • Claims first Offensive Player of the Year laurel for Rockhurst.
  • Led league in five GLVC games for goals (18), goals per game (3.6), points (29), points per game (5.8), shots (60), and shots per game (12.0).
    • Landed second in assists (11) and assists per game (2.2).
  • Paced conference in overall games for goals (46), goals per game (3.54), and points per game (4.85)
    • Finished third in points (63) and fourth in assists per game (1.31).
  • Started all 13 games for the Hawks.
  • Named GLVC Offensive Player of the Week on Mar. 24 and Apr. 14.
  • Earns spot on All-GLVC First Team.
 
Defensive Player of the Year: John Chorlton, Junior, Long-Stick Midfielder, Maryville
  • Claims first Defensive Player of the Year accolade for Maryville.
  • Topped league in GLVC contests for ground balls (31) and ground balls per game (6.2), while placing second in caused turnovers (11) and caused turnovers per game (2.2).
  • Finished second in the conference for overall caused turnovers (29) and third in caused turnovers per game (2.07) and ground balls (58).
  • Added five points on three goals and two assists for the season.
  • Earned GLVC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Apr. 21.
  • Started all 14 games for the Saints.
  • Only unanimous selection to the All-GLVC First Team.
 
Specialist of the Year: Domenic Tarello, Junior, Lewis
  • Claims second-straight Specialist of the Year award.
  • Tied for most face-off wins (47) in GLVC games, as well as landing second in ground balls (27) and ground balls per game (5.4) and fourth in face-off win percentage (.644).
  • Led league in overall face-off wins (149) and grounds balls (75).
    • Placed second in face-off win percentage (.659) and ground balls per game (5.0).
  • Added five goals, three caused turnovers, and two assists for the year
  • Secured GLVC Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 17, Feb. 24, and Apr. 14.
  • Played all 15 games for the Flyers, starting 10.
  • Named to All-GLVC First Team for second consecutive season.
 
Goalkeeper of the Year: Brock Ollila, Junior, Rockhurst
  • Garners first Goalkeeper of the Year honor for Rockhurst.
  • Finished second in league contests for save percentage (.580), while also ranking third in saves (65) and saves per game (13.0)
  • Landed third in overall games for saves (167), saves per game (12.85), and save percentage (.557).
  • Started all 13 games for the Hawks.
  • Named GLVC Defensive Player of the Week on Mar. 10 and Apr. 7.
  • Claims spot on All-GLVC First Team.

Freshman of the Year: Nolan Hartl, Midfielder, Rockhurst
  • Claims second-straight Freshman of the Year honor for Rockhurst after Jonah McConnell won Co-Freshman of the Year in 2024.
  • Was top-10 in GLVC matches for goals per game (1.60), points per game (2.40), and shots per game (6.40)
  • Placed 10th in overall shots per game (5.08), along with contributing 16 goals, 13 assists, and nine ground balls.
  • Appeared in all 13 games for the Hawks, starting seven.
  • Named to All-GLVC Second Team.
 
Coach of the Year: Scott Stark, Maryville
  • Secures third Coach of the Year accolade.
  • In his fifth season, led Maryville to an 10-4 overall record and 4-1 mark in GLVC action, earning a share of the Regular Season Championship and top seed in the GLVC Tournament.
  • Led team to top per-game averages in conference matches for goals (15.8), assists (11.2), points (27.0), shots (50.6), shots on goal (29.8), ground balls (43.8), and caused turnovers (12.4).
  • Managed squad to league-best numbers in multiple categories for the entire season, including shots per game (50.29), goals against average (8.56), ground balls per game (36.07), and caused turnovers per game (11.79).
  • Ranked 11th in USILA Poll.
  • Guided Chorlton to major award, as well as 16 players to All-GLVC recognition, including five on the First Team with Chorlton also being selected unanimously.
 
Maryville led all league programs with five first-team choices, while University of Indianapolis closely followed with four selections. Lewis and Rockhurst each had three players appear on the First Team.
 
The league also recognized UIndy as its GLVC Men’s Lacrosse James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award team recipient, as well as six student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees are now eligible to become one of their school’s two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced in May.
