INDIANAPOLIS – William Jewell College junior Bryson Oots has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Men's Golf Player of the Year, while University of Missouri-St. Louis’ Logan Mayo earned the Freshman of the Year nod and his head coach Troy Halterman was chosen by his peers as GLVC Coach of the Year, it was announced by the Conference office on Monday. In addition, five individuals completed the 12-member All-Conference team.
Per GLVC Bylaws, each of the top-five finishers – extended to include ties – at the GLVC Championship automatically earn an All-Conference selection, with the remaining five individuals and major award winners nominated and voted on by the head coaches. Coaches are not permitted to vote for their own players.
Player of the Year: Bryson Oots, Junior, William Jewell
- Becomes William Jewell’s first-ever Player of the Year and earns the Cardinals their second major honor.
- Played in 31 rounds during the 2024-25 season with a 72.1 stroke average and season-low 66.
- Won four events with three other top-ten finishes over 11 events.
- Ranked No. 2 in the GLVC, sixth in NCAA Midwest Region, and 86th in NCAA Division II.
- Helped Cardinals to three tournament wins, to go along with another runner-up finish and four other top-10 results.
- Finished third at GLVC Championship (69-78-74–221).
Freshman of the Year: Logan Mayo, Missouri-St. Louis
- Becomes UMSL’s third Freshman of the Year and first since Leo Baudry in 2023.
- Played in 32 rounds during the 2024-25 season with a 71.81 stroke average.
- Earned a win at the Findianapolis Spring Invitational as well as capturing a runner-up at the Arch Cup.
- Ranked sixth in the GLVC, 14th in NCAA Midwest Region, and 128th in NCAA Division II.
- Helped Tritons to three runner-up finishes, to go along with five top-five results.
- Finished tied for sixth at GLVC Championship (78-71-67–216) with a tournament-low score in the third round.
Coach of the Year: Troy Halterman, Missouri-St. Louis
- Wins fifth Coach of the Year award and fifth overall for UMSL.
- Led Tritons to a semifinal finish in GLVC Championship medal/match play losing to UIndy 4-1.
- Mentored Tritons to three runner-up finishes, to go along with five top-five results.
- Guided Mayo to his major award and two others to All-GLVC recognition, including sophomore Dani Solavera and freshman Trigg Lindahl.
Along with Oots, Mayo, Solavera, and Lindahl, Lewis University’s Ty Doty, Maryville University’s Max Hsu, and Missouri S&T’s Isaac To were voted by the league coaches as the five additional honorees on the All-Conference team. Those earning an automatic spot on the postseason team included GLVC Individual Medalist Cody Donovan (74-69-67–210) from Lewis, runner-up Cameron Young (68-71-74–213) from University of Indianapolis, Missouri S&T’s Cole Komyati (72-70-72) and Lindahl in a tie for third, and Hunter Jowers (71-76-68-215) of Drury University.
The league also recognized 13 GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honorees for the sport and Missouri-St. Louis as the team award winner . The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees are now eligible to become one of their school’s two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced later this month.
