INDIANAPOLIS – 20 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) student-athletes were named All-American at last week’s NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Indianapolis' Alex Meyer highlighted the list of All-Americans with a National Championship effort in the men’s long jump, leaping a career-best 7.79 (25’-6.75”)meters. Owen Fraser of Missouri S&T also claimed a national title, this in the men’s shot put, launching 19.25 meters (63’-2”). Josue Le Cadre rounded out the national champions for the GLVC, as the UIndy Greyhound won the men’s 800m in a time of 1:47.17.
Five Greyhounds earned All-American status, with the men’s distance medley relay team placing second, running a time of 9:39.95, just .004 off first. Vivian Osagie placed fifth in the women’s shot put (15.63m, 51’-3.5”), and Francesca Maurino places sixth in the women’s high jump (1.76m, 5’-9.25”).
Lewis earned four All-Americans in the form of Levi Graham runner-up in the men’s weight throw (22.32m-73’-2.75”), Denise Hernandez runner-up in the women’s long jump (6.18m, 20’-3.5”), and Evan Horgan finishing as runner-up in the men’s 3,000m (7:57.17, just .03 off first), and seventh in the men’s 5,000m (13:53.46).
Missouri S&T also had four All-Americans; Owen Fraser, shot put (1st), and men’s weight throw (6th, 20.98m, 68’-10”), men’s distance medley relay (6th, 9:42.16), and Henry Born in the men’s 3,000m (7:59.45).
Rounding out the conference’s All-Americans was Maryville’s Harry Mitchell (men’s 400m, 7th, and men’s 200m, 5th), and Sarai Brown (women’s 60m, 7th), Lincoln’s Malik Drummond (men’s triple jump, 4th), and Aaliyannah Anderson (women’s 60m hurdles, 7th), SBU’s Stephanique Dean (women’s 200m, 3rd), and UIS’s Maddie Miller-Ross (women’s 5,000m, 6th).
The UIndy men placed fifth in the team standings, while Lewis and Missouri S&T finished tied for 12th. Maryville finished tied for 27th, and Lincoln finished tied for 32nd. Lewis’ women finished in 25th while Indianapolis’ was tied for 29th. Southwest Baptist women’s finished tied for 34th, with Illinois Springfield finishing tied for 43rd, and Lincoln and Maryville tied for 48th.
