Rockhurst, UIndy, McKendree Garner GLVC Men’s Basketball Major Awards

INDIANAPOLIS – Rockhurst guard Jaylen Wesley, Indianapolis forward Shaun Arnold, McKendree guard Andrew Moore, and Rockhurst head mentor Kyle Blackbourn have earned major postseason honors for the 2025-26 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Men's Basketball season, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Wesley was named Player of the Year, Arnold earned Defensive Player of the Year, Moore garnered Freshman of the Year, and Blackbourn was dubbed Coach of the Year by his peers. In total, 21 student-athletes claimed All-Conference honors, 10 earned All-Defensive Team honors, five were named to the All-Freshman team, while 15 were chosen as GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship honorees for the sport.

The All-Conference awards are nominated and voted on by league coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own players.
 
Player of the Year: Jaylen Wesley, Senior, Guard, Rockhurst
  • Wins Rockhurst’s second GLVC Player of the Year award, joining Aaron Hill in 2008-09 in the honor.
  • Second in the league overall (22.4) and in GLVC-only games (21.7) for points per game and finished second in GLVC-only games for steals per game (2.2).
  • Fourth overall in field goal percentage (.529), and seventh in GLVC-only games (.514)
  • Ranked tied for 13th in Division II for points per game.
  • Started all 28 games played.
  • Scored in double figures in every game this season, including 16 games with 20-plus points.
  • Named GLVC Player of the Week on Nov. 17, Dec.1, Jan. 12, Feb. 9, and Feb. 23.
  • Helped Hawks to a 23-5 record and the top seed in GLVC Tournament.
  • Named to All-GLVC First Team.
 
Defensive Player of the Year: Shaun Arnold, Forward, Junior, Indianapolis
  • Wins Indianapolis' first Defensive Player of the Year award.
  • Led league in overall (83; 3.0) and GLVC-only games (69; 3.5) for total steals and steals per game.
  • Has eight games with five or more steals, including the top two games in the GLVC with eight and seven steals respectively.
  • Ranked third in DII for total steals and fourth for steals per game.
  • Played in all 28 games, starting 27 contests.
  • Currently leads the league in rebounds (190), and rebounds per game (9.5) in GLVC-only games
  • Named GLVC Player of the Week on Feb. 2
  • Helped Greyhounds to fourth seed in GLVC Tournament.
  • Named to All-GLVC Second Team and All-Defensive Team.
 
Freshman of the Year: Andrew Moore, Guard, McKendree
  • Wins McKendree's second Freshman of the Year honor, with Bryson Bultman claiming the other award in 2019-20.
  • Averaged 11.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists with 1.0 steals per game
  • In GLVC-only contests, had averages of 11.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.0 steals.
  • Appeared in all 28 games, starting 27 contests.
  • Shot .502 from the field, and .370 from three.
  • Named to All-Freshman Team.
 
Coach of the Year: Kyle Blackbourn, Rockhurst
  • Becomes the second Rockhurst mentor to win the award, joining Bill O’Connor in 2008-09.
  • Led Rockhurst to its winningest regular season in school history, posting a 23-5 overall record and 17-3 GLVC mark in his second season.
  • Boasted most overall points per game (87.0), scoring margin (13.9), field goal percentage (.485), and free throw percentage (.799).
  • Ranked first in GLVC-only games for points per game (86.5), scoring margin (12.6), field goal percentage (.481), and free throw percentage (.821).
    • Was second in opponent field goal percentage (.420) and turnover margin (2.8)
  • Directed Hawks to the 1-seed in this week's GLVC Tournament after being picked fourth in the preseason coaches' poll.
  • Mentored Wesley to Player of the Year, All-GLVC First Team, and All-Defensive Team. Also coached guard Drenin Dinkins to All-GLVC First Team, and guard Jaden Flournoy to All-GLVC Second Team honors.
Joining Wesley and Dinkins on the First Team was Drury guard/forward Zach Howell, Illinois Springfield guard Jordan Rice, Indianapolis guard Carmelo Harris, the McKendree duo of guard Rini Harris, and guard Cha’Vez Woods, Missouri S&T forward Andrew Young, Upper Iowa forward Kyle Hrncir, and William Jewell guard Justice Sutton.
 
McKendree earned the sport's GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team Award, while 15 student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior were also recognized. These individuals must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from full-time GLVC member institutions are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
