McKendree’s Harris, UIndy’s Bunte Earns D2CCA Midwest Region Major Honor, 12 Others Named

INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) was well represented as 14 student-athletes appeared on the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Midwest Region Softball Teams, it was announced Monday.

McKendree shortstop Lauren Harris garnered the region's Player of the Year award and Indianapolis’ Caitlin Bunte won Pitcher of the Year. Joining Harris was her Bearcat teammate pitcher Sami Huck. Lewis catcher Morgan Spodarek, Rockhurst second base Emily Berry, outfielders Mikayla Chairez (William Jewell), Keeley Elsea (Southwest Baptist), and Brooklyn Willis (Indianapolis) round out the league honors.

Six players were named to the Second Team. Indianapolis led with three, Shelby Cook (first base), Peyton Cusack (second base), and Cheyanne Eads (utility/pitcher). Rockhurst pitcher Avery Huffman, Truman State outfielder Cassie Smith, and Maryville designated hitter Addison Koth rounded out the honorees.

The GLVC led with 14 selections (eight First Team, six Second Team), while the Great Midwest Athletic Conference was second with nine honorees (one First Team, eight Second Team), and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tallied six selections (five First Team, one Second Team).
